So, let's talk about CHAOS, my new fav. tv show that CBS will probably ax b/c it's failing in the 18-49 ratings b/c it's on Friday at 8:00pm. *coughs* Anyway.
First off, if you've been meaning to watch it but missed the first two episodes, you can view both for free (I'm assuming only if you're in America) on
tv.com;
CBS.com, or download the pilot for free/buy the second episode for .99 cents on
amazon.com.
So, let me sum up: CHAOS is a show which takes place in the CIA's Clandestine Administration And Oversight Services, CAOS or, as it is called in the show CHAOS. It mostly concerns an off-shoot of CHAOS, the Office of Disruptive Services, ODS. We follow new CIA hire, Rick Martinez, as he joins ODS as a mole for Director H. J. Higgins, the head of CHAOS.
CHAOS, as an office, and like most of the CIA, are facing massive cost-cutting measures. Everything has become about the bottom line, not taking chances or missions that waste money and get bad press. ODS on the other hand, is a group of agents who are like old-school spies. They're on Higgins' hit-list because they find doing their jobs more important than keeping to the bottom line. They're not the kind willing to stay in offices and ride their desks until the end of retirement. Higgins' has long been looking for an excuse to cut ODS, but hasn't had the chance because they have friends in high places. With the use of his new mole, he can prove any wrong-doing by ODS and get them cut out of CHAOS for good.
I'm not going to reveal too much. I think it's best not to spoil a show for new-viewers and we’re only two episodes in, but suffice to say, CHAOS is one of those shows that attempts to go cross-genre. It's action, drama, and comedy combined. Your heroes and villains are not so clear-cut, there's not black hats vs. white hats going on, everything is a bit more complicated. It is still the CIA we're dealing with after all. Each character embodies both good and bad qualities.
Now to get to the picspam part. Let's meet the characters
Our Team, ODS:
We'll begin with our main character, the new, pocket-sized hire with his mama's gumbo, Rick Martinez as played by Freddy Rodriguez:

He's fluent in many languages, never sure who to trust, still relatively true-to-heart, and a rookie in all and every way. He also has one of the worst First Week On the Job stories I’ve seen on tv so far.
He begins his week with attitude from the gate guard over a simple questioning of he needs to show his bagged liquids, like his mama's gumbo. And then we find out his identity, thanks to a glitch in the system, has been put on the Terrorism Watch List. This does not end well:

He then pauses for a Moment of Idealism:

As they day progresses he almost gets hit by a car in a blackmail attempt by his new co-workers, also, being blackmailed by said new co-workers:

He is lusted after for being “lap-sized”:

Goes to Sudan, eats a scorpion:

Gets drugged around a campfire:

And then gets his hook-up cockblocked by his new co-workers:

The second episode starts out with his being tasked to get an ambassador’s wife out of North Korea. He has the most appropriate expression for this mission:

Now for the team, who have been together for six years before Rick came stumbling along:
Michael Dorset, the leader, the tactician, the brains. Ex-husband of Fay Carson who called him Jerk Ass on one memorable occasion. He is just a bit of a controlling bastard, along with being suspicious and paranoid. He has no problem using the secrets he has on other people for blackmail and bribery and will do whatever it takes to make a mission work. He is played by Eric Close.

And sometimes he wears glasses:

Casey Malick, the human weapon. He’s been an operative with the CIA for 12 years. Yes, he is really a human weapon. He’s the brawn of the group. No, I’m not joking. He is often offended by things people say and will tell you so in the driest tone possible. He is played by Tim Blake Nelson.

Billy Collins, former member of the British Secret Service. Billy is the charming Scotsman, who uses his charisma to lull people into a false sense of security. He is very often seen driving the team’s vehicles, be it SUV, Jeep, or a North Korean Hospitality Bus. He is easily the most likeable member of the team, but he still has no qualms about doing what needs to be done. He is played by James Murray.

Director H.J. Higgins is a cost-cutting hardass perfectly played by Kurtwood Smith.

Fay Carson, Higgins’ right-hand, Dorset’s ex-wife, and Rick’s love interest. She’s played by Carmen Ejogo.

Congressman Fuller, Chairman of the Intelligence Committee. He is played by Currie Graham.

Doris Balishk, Office of Counterfeit Recovery in 3201B. She likes lap-sized men and Greece, but not Sean Connery. She appears in a brief but memorable in the pilot. She is played by Margo Martindale

So, if you are even the tiniest bit intrigued, please give it a chance. It’s already on the list of series likely to be canceled but maybe if there’s a bump in the viewing the next week, the week after, in digital views, etc, at the very least we could get all thirteen episodes that were ordered to air. There’s not really anything out there fandom wise yet. A few actor comms and one comm for the show, but nothing in way of fanfic/icons etc. It’s still new, as I said, but since CBS won’t do the promotion for the show, I’m going to try to recruit some of the people off LJ and DW.
