you know i have a tendency to stick to like, stick to my tiny corner of fandom and i'm often entirely blind to the drama going on. the concept of shipping wars is literally foreign to me--i honestly can't see why it would MATTER if other people ships things that are not your ship.
also i had no idea that saito and yusuf got ignored in fic (ahaha seriously what rock am i living under?) and that makes me ridiculously sad because COME ON. out of all of the characters on the team, they are possibly my FAVORITE.
also i WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE WITH THE TEAM FIC THING. :D
tbh, i didn't come out of the theater shipping anything and kind of ended up picking ships up after wandering into fandom. i'm probably doing it wrong huh.
I, alas, have been in fandoms where the shipping wars pretty much hit every single teeny tiny corner, and I don't get it. Seriously, why do people care? It's when people start getting all holier-than-thou over fic ideas and content that really sets my teeth on edge. Look, not everyone is a great writer, or even a decent writer, but other people find things enjoyable about their work. Just, you know, deal with it
( ... )
I honestly wouldn't have seen it until Netflix/DVD viewing if my Aunt and Uncle hadn't stopped by for a visit. Movies are just so expensive these days, but we were lucky to get an early day viewing that was only, like, $5 per person.
Exactly on the job thing. Anything with a paycheck until something gives.
Have yet to see Inception and have blessedly managed to avoid all spoilers so it's still as baffling to me as the day I first heard about it, yay~ I want to see it but I'm broke but everyone who I know who saw it is into the fandom @.@
Yay for the job! And the part-time thing will come in handy when you're looking for full time. Apparently employers like people who are employed better than those who aren't. The irony is killing me.gbg
You and my dad. He loves those things - I can't fathom it when he tries to suck me in ~_~ Truly heinous some of them...
Honestly, Inception is a pretty up front movie, as long as you pay attention. But I think it is a movie you need to see more than once to fully enjoy. I kind of can't wait for the dvd release, since I will be forking over the money for it. You do kind of get pulled into the fandom. I can't explain it. The fandom is crazy huge already.
Yeah, I've read that on career sites. I'm all. "But, what? How? Does anyone else get how this does not make sense?"
Honestly, if I didn't have so many issues with math, I would have gone into Forensic Anthro. It's like, the crimes themselves don't fascinate me, except for you know, the "mind of a serial killer" aspect, but the investigation into solving the crimes does.
I'm so overwhelmed by the Inception-fandom on my fl already that I'm apprehensive to even check the fandom at large in general, so I kind of enjoyed your words on it. It still sounds like something I'll probably just lurk for, but now I'm curious enough to go take a peek.
Also totally agree with you on jobs, paycheck's a paycheck. It's just a for now thing anyways.
The Inception fandom is kind of insane right now. There really is so much in terms of whats produced, but so little, like, information wise. There are maybe, two primers that I know of. No "Welcome the Newbie" posts/guides. No daily newsletter comms (which, good lord at the amount of fic/art/mixes produced they need), but that's all understandable since it is such a new fandom. I'm def. all about lurking until you get comfy. I'm still mostly-lurker, to be honest. More people are producing rec lists, so that's always a massive help in finding what tiny corner of fandom you want to settle near or on.
As for the job, I'm just so happy I have a paycheck again, I honestly don't care what I'm doing. I'm not making a career out of it, just a job.
About shipping wars as a whole: I see them a lot (given the four days a week I live on the internet) and even after all this time, I still don't *understand* them. If people cared HALF THAT MUCH about say, world hunger, we'd probably have it solved by now.
I'm like you, I just don't get shipping wars. There are things out there which are so much more important. And it happens in every fandom, every single one, and I'm all, "People, these are not life and death situations here."
To be fair I've only seen a teeny bit of shipping war in Inception fandom, which is more translating as Ariadane dislike (which I also don't get), but I'm sure that will change once the dvd comes out and more people see the movie and the fandom gets even larger. Right now the fandom wars are more, "I write dark/angsty fic, so my fic is obviously better than your fluff."
Some people are already throwing her under the Mary Sue bus for their various reasons. Even so, I'm still all, "Are you sure we watched the same movie?"
