So, I've been poking about the Inception fandom for a few days now. It's quite huge and somewhat out of control for such a new fandom. There are already a few fandom wars a'brewing and a whole case of "Our fic is much better than your fic so there" fights. Ah, it almost brings back memories of ye olden Tolkien fandom days where there were months of nothing but fandom wars. In general I just want to be all, "Some people are better writers than you. And bitching about badfic isn't going to change anything. Move along now, little elitists."

Overall though, I think the people in the fandom are quite nice. It's a wide-range fandom, pulling people from all parts of the internet, and that's of course going to a) set off drama but b) bring all types of people into said fandom. There are quite a few good stories with different narrative techniques and styles, though its mostly ficlets and drabbles due to most of the fic coming out of the kinkmeme. Which, again, is understandable for a fandom not even 3 months old. There's already been intelligent discussion on the problematic ways in which characters of the film are being portrayed in fic. Quite a few people have proposed interesting back story and fleshed out the characters.

I'm sort of a default Arthur/Eames shipper, b/c Tom Hardy and his cheeky smiles, but it's def. one of those fandoms where I want TEAM! fics. Kind of like SGA. And there are team fics out there, they just tend to forget Saito and Yusuf are also part of the team. And I love Saito, b/c he buys whole airlines, and is smart as hell, and has a carpet fetish, and seriously, is a BAMF, but mostly because he's played by Ken Watanabe. I love Yusuf b/c he is clearly a chemical genius, has a cat, put up with Eames for god knows how long, drives a cargo van off a freaking bridge, and is kind of central in how the team is able to pull off its whole inception thing, yet gets sort of ignored and hand-waved in fic. And, okay, I want more Miles too, because it's Michael friggin' Cane, people.

Of course my mind, being what it is, goes to the crazy crossover-fusion-AU place as it does with every fandom. I am of the firm belief each fandom, if possible, needs a Dead Like Me, a Grosse Pointe Blank, and some sort of cop/spy/fbi/interpol AU. Though with Inception it would be crazy-easy to do a Harry Potter-AU. Yusuf, the potions master. Eames, the metamorphmagus. You get the drift.

I'm very curious to see where the fandom will go and what will happen in between now and the dvd release.

I start my first day of training tomorrow. I have a BA and a MA and I will be training to be a part-time cashier in a grocery store. Some might count this as a step backwards. I count it as, a paycheck is a paycheck is a paycheck. Trust me, even trying to get a non-paying docent position right now requires the offer of your first born. I'm just happy to have a job, with money coming in, that I can walk/bike/take a bus to in case I can't catch a ride from someone else. I'm still looking for another job, since I want 40 hours a week, but right now is really a time of taking what I can get. The driving thing will of course help a lot of the problems, but first I much schedule an eye exam, which I can't do until I have my work schedule and a paycheck. Also, funny story: My Aunt Krissy, who I am alike in all but height and hair color, also did not find out about the vision problem in her left eye until she went for her driving permit. Granted, for her it was at the age of 16 and for me 26, but still, odd. I mean, I know I did the vision test when I get my learner's permit 10 years ago and this didn't come up, so, yeah. Odd.

Now I shall sit back and enjoy a day of true crime shows on MSNBC b/c I am the type of person who finds these types of shows interesting and relaxing. Never did claim to be sane.
