Music, fic, etc etc

So, yesterday I mentioned to my mother that Lilith Fair would be passing through Charlotte after I moved back and that the Indigo Girls are to play. 20 mins later she called me back to let me know she shelled out some serious money for seats because, "They were just that good, Shan." I then had to do the whole "MOTHER!" and "I could have sat on the lawn!" and "Are you actually this insane?" But we're going. Hopefully one of the nurses will be willing to watch Carrie. It's on a Friday; I only really want to see the Indgio Girls and Sarah, but I doubt I'll see Sarah's set since it will be the last one. It's okay, I've seen Sarah in concert before, but I would like to see her again.

I also put in my pre-order for The Gaslight Anthem's "American Slang." It's a month away, I am so very excited, and apparently you get a t-shirt when you pre-order from SideOneDummy. What cracks me up is the t-shirt, the cd, and the shipping and handling came to a whopping $17.98. How much do you want to bet the actual chain-music stores will be charging $20+ for the cd alone? I will, of course, also be buying a digital copy b/c when I loved my semi-indie bands, I love them something fierce.

In other news:

Started writing actual fic, not just bits that strayed into my mind, but full complete parts. It's a little refreshing. Like everythings else I've produced in the past year or two, I don't know if I'll ever post it. Lack of people willing to beta, concerns over lack of interest in general, my odd habit to write gen better than anything else has pretty much stopped all motivation to post fic. My mind has gone so writing-for-research vs writing-for-creativity that I don't even know if I can produce a readable story again. It's the same problem I've encountered when trying to read fiction lately; I've been so over-trained in terms of historical academic writing that when I start to notice all the technical writing flaws of a book, or a story, I can't enjoy the story itself.

Still, having dragged dancinbutterfly into the crazy world that is The Dresden Files book verse, I feel like I should do something. After our v. long hash-out of bandom-Chicago in Dresden-world, I sort of started a version of that.

Now having cleaned most of the bathroom yesterday and also cleared out the fridge, time to figure out what cleaning task I shall undertake today. Well, after Rick Steves comes on, b/c I am a dork and love my PBS travel shows.
