Raine turned to the stage when people began to quiet down, and started to make out the features of the person standing there as more light fell onto her.

As the woman-- for it was a woman-- began to sing, Raine realized that it was Magda up there, singing just as she had said she would.

Raine had never considered herself an avid lover of music, but the singing sounded nice with some refreshingly positive lyrics. When the song finished, she clapped along with the rest of the patrons while keeping a close watch on Madga. When she moved toward the bar, Raine walked over to her.

"Magda, hello." It was a little hard to make her way through while carrying a staff, but Raine managed. "I don't know much about music, but that sounded delightful. Will you be singing anymore tonight?"

Magda took a sip of her drink and did a quick once-over of Raine when the woman approached her. She was shorter than Magda, and quite small. She looked rather young, and she was carrying a large staff. The overall impression Magda got was of someone young but studious, a generally a nice person. She was a little relieved - she would have hated it if she'd found someone who could finally help her with this illness and it turned out to be someone she couldn't stand.

"Thank you," she said, smiling politely, "No, that was my last piece for the night. We can leave now, if you'd like. It'll only take a couple minutes to get to my house."

She didn't usually let a lot of people into her home, but then, she didn't tell most people about her health conditions either. The general feeling she got from Raine was that she was trustworthy, though, and she would really be more comfortable discussing this in private.

"All right." Raine smiled. "I have everything I need." She had to crane her neck up a bit to see, but Magda seemed nice enough, just as she had while writing in the journals. It would have been depressing for Raine to have gone out of her way for nothing-- it would have been another little whisper in her heart about how trust didn't mean much-- but she knew better than that. And even if Magda had turned out to be lying for some strange reason, Raine knew that she would still jump at the same ruse again and again if it meant helping even one more person with their suffering.

Still, Raine wondered about the patient. If the patient was elderly, the spells might only prolong the torture. But, perhaps, if she used only a small dose of Recover and First Aid, at least the pain would disappear. Otherwise, any healing spell would help.

Weekly check-ups would interfere with her rounds, but Raine thought Dr. Romero would understand. She would just have to change shifts.

Magda nodded, put her drink down and tossed a coin to the bartender, winking as she did. Without saying another word, she led the way out of the bar. Being taller, and, she suspected, more aggressive, it would be easier for Raine to follow her.

The night was warm and humid, but Magda was used to it. Although it was dark, there were still people out on the streets. Magda put her hand over the knife she kept concealed under her clothes. She doubted than anyone would attack them when there were still this many people around, but she preferred to be cautious.

As she had said, it was only a few minutes' walk to her house. She unlocked the door and went in, quickly glancing at the state of the parlor. She had straightened things a little before she left for work, but her house could never be called tidy. She quickly cleared off one of the sofas before turning back to address Raine. "Make yourself at home. Is there anything I can get you? Food? Drinks?"

Raine followed Magda, walking confidently through the streets. Her outlandish (for this world, at least) orange coat covered pockets quite well, and her travels had taught her quite a many different ways of using a staff.

She hovered a bit above the threshold of Magda's house; she had known this woman for only roughly a day. Raine found herself going over a familiar argument: there was no logical reason as to why Magda would be indisposed to a healer, and she did have a patient in there, or at least spoke of one.

When Magda turned to ask her about the drinks, Raine was only a little ways behind her, and answered quite pleasantly, "No, but thank you. I was thinking we could start right away- some of those symptoms sound quite uncomfortable, to say the least. Who is the patient?"

This was the part that Magda had been dreading. She knew that a lot of people found it hard to believe that she had any sort of illness, especially if they'd seen her perform. She hoped that as a healer, Raine would be more understanding, but the cynical part of her mind was telling her not to get her hopes up. She sat down on the arm of the sofa, took a deep breath, and then looked Raine in the eyes.

"It's me."

"Oh." Well, that was something unexpected. Either the woman was devoted toward her work, or she just didn't let the illness get her down. Either way, she was the type of patient that usually worked hard towards getting better, so Raine smiled. Those were the patients that pulled through, in the end. "Well, then I can start right away. I'm from a world quite different from here, so my healing might be considered a bit unorthodox. Please don't be alarmed ( ... )

Magda felt relieved when Raine didn't question her. She smiled back at her, gratefully and listened to what Raine said carefully. Magda had never witnessed anyone performing magic, but it sounded like Raine had some techniques that might be able to help her.

"The entire illness is somewhat unpredictable. I've noticed that the symptoms seem to get worse when I'm more tired. The more active I've been, the longer it takes for me to recover afterwards. Even when I'm exhausted, I still have insomnia. I've found a couple of herbal remedies that help me sleep, but they only work sometimes. Whatever you can do will help."

Raine thought to herself. The insomnia sounded like a problem, if it affected Magda even when she was exhausted. The body needed to rest after tiring itself out, and insomnia could severely limit its capacity to not only restore itself but to even continue working. But she had no spells that could directly take care of it.

"I'm afraid I don't have anything that can take care of the insomnia right now, but let's try the general healing first, and you can tell me if you feel any better." She hefted her staff with two hands. "I can start right now, if you're ready. It won't hurt, and I don't even need to touch you."

Magda was still a little uncertain about this, but she was willing to try if there was a chance that she could be healed, at least somewhat.

"Alright."
