"For the last freaking time, it's not an alien," Neku snapped, marching up and placing a hand on the branch. He stepped away, and placed his hands on the sides of his head. "Look, I'll prove it."

And to Neku, the world around him went blue, as the thoughts of the nearby people (funny, his range wasn't as large - to be expected of Rivelata) came into his perception.

There was Haruhi, mentally babbling away about Aliens and someone named Kyon and a Brigade of some sort. He briefly focused on that, and shied away once he learned that Haruhi intended for HIM to join her Brigade. No way - the only club of any kind Neku was in was the Go Home After School Club.

He then turned his scan to the tree, and, just as he expected, heard nothing.

Neku released the scan, and glowered up at Haruhi. "See? No thoughts whatsoever. It's just a plant."

He paused, and looked back up at her. "And no, I'm not joining, so forget it."

Haruhi harrumphed. So it was a tree. But it was still a floating, upside-down tree, and if it wasn't an alien itself, then it had to have alien life in it somewhere.

"Fine, so it's not an alien! But we don't know what's in it until we explore, right?"

She walked a little farther up the branch before she caught his last remark.

"Oh-ho-ho, so you read that, huh? Well don't worry, I'll change your mind! We need a good Brigade, and our esper isn't around yet, so you'll have to do!"

Well. That was the first time Neku had been outright called an "esper" - granted, he knew in the back of his mind that he was one, but it made him uncomfortable to think about it.

And anyway, he technically wasn't one - he was actually a Reaper, but after seeing Haruhi react to his abilities, no way was he letter her know.

"So what, are you planning on going up more?" he grumbled, watching her continue to go towards the sky.

"I'm going inside it!" She declared, walking around so she was right side up again, her arms crossed and her grin wide and triumphant. Queen of the world was she - especially now that she was standing on top of a giant, floating, otherworldly tree.

"You should come too, esper! It can be on the job training for your Brigade membership!"

Yuki walked initially. She found little reason to betray her non-humanity, until Suzumiya-san's reply that she was going to explore territory that Yuki considered dangerous and without any knowledge of it, the alien was finding that it was impossible (as always) to inform the leader of the dangers behind such an action, especially in a place where she was less than a god.

It was still slower than back on Earth, but at least it was faster than a normal human's run. Her arms drifted behind her as she sped toward the beach, picking up a little bit of speed as she did so. The alien stopped on the beach and walked out to meet the leader, climbing over the branch like a monkey.

It was no alien in her own definition of the word, but foreign data. The new information swirled as she looked at it. The idea that it had entered the locale sparked interest in the alien. If it could force its way into this, why shouldn't she and Suzumiya-san be able to force their ways into their own worlds?

Just past the little orange-haired esper, Haruhi spied her resident Brigade alien. It made sense that the tree wasn't one, since it looked nothing like Yuki... but it was still possible for it to be alien somehow, if only because it was from a different world.

And that's what interested her about it anyway, wasn't it?

"Oy, Yuki! Up here!" She yelled, cupping her hands around her mouth and waving.

After writing a quick reply to Haruhi's entry, Mikuru hurried out the clubhouse door and down to the beach. She doubted there was actually an alien - if Nagato-san said it wasn't, she was probably right and Suzumiya-san was overreacting again. But no matter what was going on, the whole brigade should probably be there just in case.

Haruhi was right. The branch was the size of most normal trees. Her brigade chief was standing on it, and Nagato-san was nearby. "Suzumiya-san!" she called, running to stand beside the alien.

[ooc: Tentative order is Haruhi, Neku, Yuki, Joshua, Mikuru?]

Haruhi paused, turning at the sound of the familiar voice.

"Mikuru-chan! Get up Yuki and hurry up here!" She waved them up the branch. "Look, our new members are coming too! Show your motivation!"

Even if they decided not to come along, Haruhi was happy enough with the two espers. She had gained her own powers, and they would be enough to keep herself alive. And her new members too, of course. With a glance back at them, she decided it was a good thing going "up the tree" only meant walking along the branch. Joshua didn't look like the athletic type, and she'd certainly never seen Yuki and Mikuru do anything physically strenuous before. And that wasn't even mentioning Kyon.

"We'll be the first ones to contact them! Won't it be great!? And Neku-kun and Joshua-kun can use their powers to talk to them for us!"

Neku grumbled. all they were doing was walking up a gravity-defying tree. There weren't going to be any aliens or horrible creatures of nightmare for him to communicate with. All they were going to find was more tree.

Neku was sure of it

He couldn't shake off the weird sense of vertigo as he walked, though, and the sensation of Rivelata shrinking behind him.
