Laptops are cool. I'm in the theatre watching the first dress rehearsal for Comic Potential. Nifty. Sadly, the wireless connection in the scene shop is blocked when the big bay door is rolled down. *pout*
Faire was especially fun this weekend, for no discernable reason-- I was just in a particularly good mood all weekend despite the sleep dep.
Because I'm a glutton for punishment, after work on Friday I let Steve suck me into watching a movie before the drive to Vallejo to Aaron's place. (The Libertine, which I had mixed feelings about-- I thought the political plot line was delightfully funny, and much of the acting was excellent, but the actress sub-plot was terrible. Whenever that woman came onstage she sucked the life out of the movie. Steve had control of the remote, and thankfully he figured out early on that whenever violins played in the background he could fast forward and we wouldn't miss anything we wanted to see.) I left home far too late at night so I could spend time with the boy before I got up way too freaking early to drive two hours to get to fairesite in time for our stage call, danced three shows, got invited to play music for a fourth show, and left early to drive two hours back to Vallejo to shower and change into cute, slightly gothed-up vintage duds for the Lee Press-On and the Nails show. I carpooled into the city with Rick, Heidi, and Jessica-- yay, a break from driving! More on the show in a moment. Sunday morning was painful... the alarm went off no more than three hours after Aaron and I had gone to bed. We opted to skip Siamsa's first show (I had warned the director that might happen, knowing the band wasn't supposed to hit the stage 'till midnight), and caught another much-needed hour and a half of sleep before driving two hours back to the central valley to Casa de Fruita. Did a couple of shows, spent the rest of the day being social and in a crazily good mood. 152 looked like a parking lot when we left site, so we opted to hit Casa de Restaurant for foodage, caffeine, and more socializing. We had the slowest imaginable waitress, but we were in no hurry since we were hoping the traffic would clear a bit while we were there. It didn't, but at least we weren't hungry while we sat there and kept each other entertained. :)
The LPN reunion show was incredibly great fun. The guys sounded remarkably tight for not having played together for two years. Sadly, the pre-show was one of the the worst bits of stage time I've ever had to witness. The "entertainment" consisted of two pathetically un-funny comedians emceeing a number of talentless but reasonably cute girls attempting to do burlesque and failing miserably, and a few other pathetic variety acts. There were a total of two decent pre-show bits, neither of which lasted more than five or maybe ten minutes out of something like three hours of painful crap. One person (unfortunately I can't remember who it was) likened it to a bad Ren Faire night show. (Those peeps on my friends list who worked faire out at Blackpoint will know exactly what that means!) Despite that, I had a stellar time the entire night. There were a ton of great people there, and it was way cool to spend time with so many of them. I danced a fair amount with some excellent partners, although I was already wiped out from dancing onstage all day at Casa de Faire with Siamsa. LPN didn't end up going on until about 1:00 AM, so it was a long night. Yay for dance endorphins and caffeine!
Heh, I even got Aaron to dance quite a bit. Now to get him to believe he's a decent dancer, which he is-- he was scarred by an ex-girlfriend who he didn't dance well with, and who convinced him wrongly that he's no good. Stupid girl. I want to get him doing lindy and blues rather than struggling with east coast, since his musician's soul is seriously disturbed by the idea of dancing in 6 to music in 8. Hah. When I reminded him that it's perfectly okay to dance in 8, we had a truly wonderful dance together. The rest of the times we danced together that night were fun, don't get me wrong, but when he just had fun playing rather than struggling with the counts it was a different experience.
Oh, funny story: as we were getting ready to leave the DNA Lounge Saturday night (er... Sunday morning... whatever!) I ran off to the ladies' room, and Aaron sat down at one of the tables along the side of the room to wait for me. Another couple came and sat down at the same table just as I was getting back. Lang came up at the same time, and he and Aaron kissed enthusiastically. The couple both did these astonished double-takes-- the looks on both of their faces were priceless. You could actually see them processing and then concluding, "gay boys." Then Lang pecked me goodbye, and then Aaron and I kissed and I said, "ready to go, bebeh?" You could see the couple's brains churning. Maybe you had to be there, but it was brilliantly funny, I swear.
