disney world finds its way in to a temp agency, and i get a job. (unrelated.)

and so begins the will-be adventure that is temping in albany, ny.

today i went to eileen baker employment agency for an interview.

i left way too early from my house, knowing that i would most likely get lost. it seems that such would be hard to do because eileen baker is right on central ave -- but knowing myself as i do, i had a good feeling that there would be at least five minutes of "oh no i'm lost" involved.

and there certainly was! i looked at a map online that seemed to imply that the agency was in the westgate shopping plaza (okay, if i had used any of the reasoning skills i was taught in earth science lab i would have realized that a shopping plaza would be a weird place for an employment agency)... so i drove around westgate looking for the agency. to my dismay i instead found a price chopper, a chinese buffet, an h&r block (okay, you're right - it's never to anyone's dismay to find a price chopper. i was just upset to not find eileen baker) ...

so i think to myself "hey, myself - it doesn't seem to be here." to which myself said "thanks captain obvious." ... so me and myself realized that we had to come up with some sort of plan. it seemed to me that turning back on to central and continuing down the road would probably be a good idea. myself agreed, so off i went.

eileen baker was in the office building next door to westgate shopping plaza. yesss!

but now i was twenty minutes early. "you would" myself said.

so then i drove back to price chopper and walked in there like i had something important to get. i looked around and realized that the westgate price chopper is exactly like the latham price chopper. it was 10:06 by that point and i figured i had wasted enough time, so i got back in my car and drove myself back to eileen baker.

i went inside and meekly said "hi, i have an appointment at 10:15?" the question mark is there to express the ridiculous tone in my voice -- i wasn't speaking with very much conviction.

the girl, shiela, was way outgoing and said "okay! just fill out that form and we'll be right with you!" so i filled out the form and sat down to talk to her.

it turns out shiela also did the walt disney world college program. she worked at epcot. disney world once told me that 26,000 people apply to the college program each semester and only 4,000 are accepted. i'm not very good with numbers, but i used to think that those numbers must mean that the college program is fairly selective and therefore the whole world didn't do the college program.

i changed my mind on that assumption. it seems like i have met quite a few people who have done the program or know someone who did the program. i'm pretty sure that for the rest of my life people are going to be saying "ooh! so where did you work?" and i'm going to say "the yacht and beach club resort" and they're going to say "oh cool! i worked at epcot/magic kingdom/mgm/animal kingdom/..." and we'll realize we lived in the same apartment complex and we both got to go to disney world for free and then we'll realize.... there isn't much else to talk about with that.

anyway, shiela, who ran "the land boat ride at epcot" (*note: i don't know what that is, but i pretended i did) asked me to sit down and take a computer test. that was fun... i guess. she said that i had 7,000 keystrokes in 5 minutes. i wish she had explained what that meant.

i had been at the computer for five minutes doing this keystroke test and if i remember correctly shiela was just talking to kate, the other girl working there, about nothing important. but when i sat down after the keystroke test, shiela said "well, i do have a possition that i'd like to offer you."

really?

so i guess i'll be the new clerical filing wizard (that is a techinical term, said myself, sarcastically.) at albany visiting nurses. it's monday through friday 10-6 and it's only a temporary possition because they're trying to find someone permanent. all in all, this seems perfect. i like nurses, especially visiting ones.

what the heck is a visiting nurse? and why do they have an office if they are going to be out visiting people?

oh well.

so, the adventure will begin tomorrow.

...but today, the quest for a new dress continues.
