Ethan

I should have bloody known it. Ethan Rayne. Why does his name keep popping up all over the place - does the man never stop?

No, I guess he doesn't.

Apparently the issue with the controllable werewolf can be traced back to Ethan and a spell he performed for Jordy Osbourne and Sophie Young whilst - or so I understand - they thought they were ( Read more... )

I step out of the bookstore, only to see Ripper coming down the street looking determined. Not a mood I usually like him to be in when I run into him. I hastily backstep into the shop, hoping he didn't see me, and intently peruse a shelf of periodicals. Good god, some of these rags will just print anything, won't they?

I peek through the window, but I haven' seen him pass. That makes me nervous.

He's so intent in looking for me out of the shop window - hoping I haven't seen him no doubt - that he neglects to watch the door, allowing me to be standing right by his shoulder when I say "Ethan. Aren't you just the bad penny?"

I roll my eyes and turn. "Why, Ripper, fancy meeting you here. Hardly expected to find you in a Barnes and Noble--I thought you only frequented the rare book shops." I don a concerned smile. "You don't look happy, old friend, trouble on the hellmouth?"

"You're here, aren't you?" I growl. "We need to talk - or rather, you need to talk and I need to ask questions. Maybe we should go somewhere more private," and no, that's not a question. I indicate that he should leave the shop.

I frown, trying to remember the site I'd found the spell on. "Really, Ripper, you worry too much. It was just some silly incantation from a hideously garish amateur magic website. I wasn't calling on any dark spirits or anything. For heavens' sake, I didn't even have them seal the pact with blood." In other words, I'd been ripping them off completely, but he didn't need to know that.

That, at least, is a relief - maybe the binding isn't complete. "Do you still have a copy of the spell?" If I can get a copy of the spell and if the binding was incomplete then the damage can be undone - though the issue of Jordy and the controllable werewolf is interesting and maybe I could research the entire spell and its effects before a decision is made as to whether it should be reversed. My mind is working overtime as I try and second guess the possibilities.

I shrug. "I may--not on me at the moment, of course, but I can look through my papers when I get back to the motel." I fold my arms and idly rub my chin with one hand, eying him curiously. "You still haven't said why you're in a tizzy over it. Did...something happen?"

I pause, wondering how much I shoudl tell him - waondering how much he'd crow if he knew the effect his little spell had had. "The pair in question happened to be under another spell at the time - they weren't quite themselves, one might say. that initial spell has now been reversed and almost inevitably they are having to deal with your spell. I must say, Ethan - it was quite irresponsible of you to perform that spell. But what am I saying - since when has responsibility ever bothered you?"
