Ethan

I should have bloody known it. Ethan Rayne. Why does his name keep popping up all over the place - does the man never stop?

No, I guess he doesn't.

Apparently the issue with the controllable werewolf can be traced back to Ethan and a spell he performed for Jordy Osbourne and Sophie Young whilst - or so I understand - they thought they were ( Read more... )

I frown, trying to remember the site I'd found the spell on. "Really, Ripper, you worry too much. It was just some silly incantation from a hideously garish amateur magic website. I wasn't calling on any dark spirits or anything. For heavens' sake, I didn't even have them seal the pact with blood." In other words, I'd been ripping them off completely, but he didn't need to know that.

That, at least, is a relief - maybe the binding isn't complete. "Do you still have a copy of the spell?" If I can get a copy of the spell and if the binding was incomplete then the damage can be undone - though the issue of Jordy and the controllable werewolf is interesting and maybe I could research the entire spell and its effects before a decision is made as to whether it should be reversed. My mind is working overtime as I try and second guess the possibilities.

I shrug. "I may--not on me at the moment, of course, but I can look through my papers when I get back to the motel." I fold my arms and idly rub my chin with one hand, eying him curiously. "You still haven't said why you're in a tizzy over it. Did...something happen?"

I pause, wondering how much I shoudl tell him - waondering how much he'd crow if he knew the effect his little spell had had. "The pair in question happened to be under another spell at the time - they weren't quite themselves, one might say. that initial spell has now been reversed and almost inevitably they are having to deal with your spell. I must say, Ethan - it was quite irresponsible of you to perform that spell. But what am I saying - since when has responsibility ever bothered you?"

I spread my hands. "I tried to get the boy to change his mind--several times, in fact. And how was I to know he wasn't in his right mind? He seemed normal enough to me...well, as adolescent males go, and werewolves, of course. Unstable lot, in my experience."

I sigh. "So the first spell wore off, and now he's rethinking the binding spell? Typical. Well, if you need help finding a reversal, let me know." I shake my head. "Why I let myself get dragged into this nonsense, I'll never know."

"Yes, very public spirited of you," I say, unconvinced. "And how am I to be sure that you won't simply disappear without a trace? Hmm?"

"I haven't so far," I point out. "As it happens, I'm between jobs, so I won't be running off any time soon. At least until I find a client willing to pay for my services. Which I'm offering you for free." Really, Ripper could be so bloody ungrateful at times. Make that all the time.

"Was there anything else you wanted to accuse me of? Or shall I go look for the spell?"

"I'm sure the list is endless," I reply drolly. "Go, go - look for the spell," I say dismissively, suddenly wanting him out of my presence. "Just remember - if you don't return by the morning, I'll have Buffy come after you."

"I'll drop it off later this evening--if I can find it," I assure him. "No need to send your bloody slayer after me." I give him one last roll of the eyes before letting myself out.
