Walk Fast From That Boring Explosion.

Goodness, you're all being very quiet. A new series of Doctor Who, and there are only three reaction posts on my flist? What parallel universe have I fallen into?

MARK SHEPPARD.

CROWLEY.

CROWLEY WAS IN THE TARDIS.

CROWLEY.

I demand a million fics in which Crowley (by which I mean Supernatural rather than Good Omens Crowley) is the Doctor's companion. Or, failing that, the Master. Or both.

(Seriously, you guys, I am not sure you understand. Crowley is the best. Here is a video of Crowley, being the best. I think his particular brand of smug homoerotic arsehole is exactly what the TARDIS needs.)

Other points from the episode: I thought, when the Doctor was being electrocuted, that he would regenerate (although obviously something would prevent us from seeing who he actually regenerated into), and then an earlier version of the Doctor would come back to travel with Amy and Rory, and over the course of the series we'd find out about the events that led to the regeneration. I thought that was a brilliant and gutsy move. I'm still intrigued, but killing him outright actually makes it less gutsy, because obviously they're going to find a way to undo it. Although I can't say I'm not slightly relieved, because Matt Smith is a brilliant Doctor and I wouldn't want this to be his last series.

I am also relieved because, following the Doctor Who Experience, I saw a magazine in the shop with a front cover proclaiming that one of the Doctor, River, Amy and Rory would die in the first episode. This distressed me because my line of thought went 'well, obviously it's not going to be the Doctor or Amy, and we know River can't die because we've already seen the end of her story, NOOOOO DOCTOR WHO DON'T TAKE RORY AWAY FROM ME.' Rory remains with us! (Er, provided the forgettable aliens didn't get him.) I am so pleased.

My feelings on River Song are mixed. Sometimes I like her a lot; sometimes her awesomeness seems a bit contrived. But that's just me being contrary; the more a writer seems to be trying to make me like a character, the more I resist. (I'm not sure I like the emphasis on how similar she is to the Doctor. Make her a character in her own right! Unless she's a future incarnation of the Doctor, in which case that's brilliant and I entreat you to continue.) Also, didn't really like the 'I'm a screamer' line. RIVER SONG THIS IS A FAMILY PROGRAMME and the idea of the Doctor as a sexual being distresses me for reasons I can't place. And the constant 'spoilers!' is starting to grate a little, but that's because Moffat loves his catchphrases; I shouldn't really hold it against the character.

I'm still trying to form a clear impression of Amy's character, because I so want to love her. (I keep meaning to perform a rewatch of the previous series with that in mind.) So far, what I've managed to pin down is that she's resourceful (taking a picture of the forgettable alien on her phone; that was a clever move), which is something I do like about her. Hoping to warm to her further in future episodes.

(Looked at a few reactions on Twitter immediately post-episode and noticed that both 'Ron Weasley' and 'Amy Pond' were trending. That's a pairing I could get behind, actually.)

ALSO HOPING FOR DELAWARE TO BE IN FUTURE EPISODES AND EVENTUALLY TURN OUT TO BE POSSESSED BY CROWLEY. IT COULD HAPPEN. MARK SHEPPARD FOR COMPANION.

I am pretty excited about this series! Let's see what happens.

crossovers, weird pairings, doctor who, supernatural, video, harry potter
