The co-mod of 100contest started her new community up this week, with Contest #1 - Mark Squires Photoshoot (winners here. The images were fab, although I actually found it surprisingly hard to create a good icon from them. I'm particularly happy with the second of my entries, which actually used two of the photos.

I like ___icontest___ - they give nice, simple themes. I'd previously made a set of playing cards (spades, mostly) bases, and in doing so, had tripped over a perfect image for using in Contest #4: Love (winners here). I decided to enter the first of these, because I'm enamoured of this style:

An interestingly bizarre yet simple theme: The Number 4 (winners here). What to do? Eek. I played for a few days with large fonts, I looked for a big dice with 4 dots visible, then I tripped over a base with a 2:4 domino at the front. Easy enough to change to a 4:4. A quick Google for an appropriate quote later, and I created my first animated icon ( Read more... )

There was an obvious quote that I had to use for obsessiveicons second contest (winners here) - my only problem was how to fit it all in 100x100 pixels. The quote is my favourite; it was written in my school year book nearly 11 years ago before I went to University, and it has stuck with me ever since. After I first pondered how my LJ friends would think of me in an icon, I started nosing around some icon journals and communities, mostly for eye-candy. One of the communities, obsessiveicons, posted their first contest (winners here) with a theme of flowers - and offered up 1100 flower icon 'bases' as a starting point.
