Summary: A swimming date turns into a romantic accident.
She waited on a bench in the park and tapped her foot impatiently. The cool breeze autumn blew into her ponytailed hair and she checked her cellphone for the third time. It was half past noon.
She let out a sigh. "He's twenty minutes late," Now her arms were folded. "What's taking him so long?"
The beautiful and lovely leader of Morning Musume, Takahashi Ai, was waiting for her boyfriend, the piglet and smile maker of NEWS, Masuda Takahisa. The two started dating around this summer when they met on a variety show they coincidentally both guested on. Despite the fact Massu's prefers the girl to ask him out, he asked Ai out first. She was charmed by his smile, he was charmed by her beauty and strong-willed personality.
Just then, Massu appeared. He was running with all of his might and broke out into his usual bright smile when he saw Ai. She puffed out her cheeks, stood up, balled her fists, and walked towards him. "You're late! What took you so long!?" She scolded at him.
Massu panted heavily because of the fatigue from running. "S-Sorry...I missed my...stop...on the...train..." He apologized between his breaths.
Ai smacked (but not too hard) his shoulder and he slightly winced. "Jeez, Taa-kun! Stop being so oblivious and pay attention to your surroundings a bit more!"
"Sorry, Ai-chan," He bit his lip and then looked at her with puppy eyes. "Will you forgive me?"
Ai didn't look at him. "Maybe I will, maybe I won't..."
"Ehh?"
Then she looked at him with a playful yet cute smirk. "Just kidding," She raised herself on her toes and kissed Massu on the lips. "I'll forgive you. Just be a bit more aware next time, 'kay?"
Massu nodded. "So, did you bring your swimsuit like I asked you to?"
"Uh-huh," Ai patted her handbag to show him she did. "What am I gonna do with it?"
Massu smiled. "A friend of mine's father owns a community center with a swimming pool inside. Although it's closed today, I persuaded him to have it open just for us." Massu winked and Ai's cheeks heated up.
She looked at her feet. "But, I can't really swim..."
"It's okay," He reassured and patted her head. "You've got me, right? I'll be your personal loveguard for the day."
"'Loveguard'? What the heck is that?" She asked confusingly.
"A lifeguard for couples. I just made it up." He chuckled.
She stuck out her tongue. "You dummy!"
Massu grabbed her hand and their fingers entwined with each other. "Let's get going!"
At the community center, Massu was now in his swimming trunks and was sitting on the pool's shallow-side ledge. His feet were dipped into the water and he kicked them slowly, waiting for Ai to get change into her swimsuit.
"S-Sorry, d-did you wait long?" Ai came out of the girls' locker room in a pure white bikini Massu bought for her during the summer.
"Nope," He walked towards her and poked her delicate cheek. "You look very cute."
Ai pouted and was embarrassed. "Oh, stop it!"
He laughed. "Okay, shall we begin?"
She nodded and the two went into the pool.
"Kyaa! It's freezing!" Ai squeaked.
"Really? It's not that bad to me..." Massu responded.
"Well you're used to this because your the one who's been swimming for almost twenty years, you giant fish!" Ai remarked.
"Touche." He then grabbed a hold of her forearms and smiled at her. "We'll start out with something simple. I wanna see how far you can swim so don't push yourself too hard and go as far as you can. Don't worry, I got you so if you feel uneasy I'll keep you safe."
Ai nodded and felt well-protected by her boyfriend. She gripped his forearms also and started to kick her small feet with all of her might. As they moved, Massu backed up slowly step by step and kept the same smile glued onto his face.
"Good, good, keep it up!" He cheered on and then started to slow down because she was getting gradually tired. "Stop here. Are you getting tired?"
"Kind of..." She replied and then looked behind her. She swam all the way from the shallow end to the middle of the pool. "I came this far...?"
Massu nodded. "Yup! You did very well!" He clapped for her and she blushed. "Now let's swim back. This time you'll do by yourself rather than using me for support."
Ai bit her lip. "You think I can do it...?" She let out nervously.
Massu grinned in a caring way. "I know you can do it!"
Ai nodded and started to swim her way back at slow pace and Massu watched her carefully. In ten minutes, she made it to the shallow ledge. Massu clapped for her. "Alright, you did it!" He gave her a high-five.
Ai panted and tucked a strand of wet hair behind her ear. "Thanks, Taa-kun."
"Sorry, but, can you wait here for a sec? I need to use the bathroom." He smiled apologetically.
Ai nodded. "Of course, go ahead."
Massu got out of the pool and headed to the boys' locker room to get to the restroom.
While waiting, Ai stared at the deep end of the pool and thought. Should I do it...? But, I might not be able make it with my swimming ability... She wondered to herself. Ai then balled up her fists and nodded firmly. Alright! I'm gonna see if I can swim to the other end and make Taa-kun proud of me! She started to swim to the other end with all her might. But, when she got to the near end her leg started to cramp up.
"Ahh!" She winced and hugged her cramped up leg. Just then, she started to sink into the water and panicked. Ai began to kick and splash in the water violently. She was drowning. Taa...kun...save me... Were the last words that ran through her mind before she went unconcious.
A few minutes later, Massu came out of the locker room and was worried that his girlfriend was nowhere to be found. "Ai...chan...? Where are you...?" He called out with the worry still lingering in his voice. Then, his eyes caught something floating in the pool. When he came closer, Massu found Ai's unconcious body. His eyes widened and his mind went blank.
"Oh god..." He muttered under his breath. "AI!!" He screamed in horror and dived into the water to save her.
When he pulled her out of the water, she laid her body on the ground and shook her a few times to see if she was still concious. "Ai-chan? Can you hear me? Ai-chan!!" No response. Massu bit his lip and it seemed like there was no other choice but to save her with CPR. Massu titled Ai's chin up, opened her mouth, and let air into her.
"1...2...3..." He counted between each breath he gave off and soon enough, she started cough up water and was regaining conciousness again.
Her eyes opened slowly. "Taa...kun...?"
Massu nodded and gripped her hand. "What happened? You made me worried sick!"
"I tried to swim to the other side of the pool but then my leg cramped and then everything went black..."
Massu then embraced Ai into his chest and held her tightly, almost like she was about to vanish into thin air. "You dummy! Didn't I tell you not to push yourself too hard?" He whispered softly into her ear.
Ai's body shook and tears were now forming into her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Taa-kun..."
"It's totally fine. As long as your safe, I'm happy. How about we go back to my house and eat something? I think you've had enough excitement for one day." Massu carressed her cheek which made her smile again.
"I'd love to."
When the two got to Massu's house, he headed straight for the kitchen and she followed but looked around the house curiously.
"Hey, where's Shoko-neesan*?" She asked.
"She probably out with some friends." He replied.
"And your parents?"
Massu turned on the sink. "At a relative's house," He started to wash his hands. "Why don't you go take a shower now? I'll make the food."
Ai nodded then rolled her eyes. "It's definitely gonna be gyoza again, right?"
Massu smirked and kissed her on the forehead. "Maybe it will, maybe it won't..."
When Ai got out of the shower, she put on an old t-shirt and old pair of sweatpants that belonged to Massu. Ai sat down at the table and saw him come in from the kitchen with two bowls and set them down on the table. "Sorry to keep you waiting!" He singsonged.
Ai looked at the contents inside the bowl and was surprised. "Sauce katsudon**?"
"That's right!" Massu then gave her the cute puppy look again. "Is that...no good for you...?"
Ai shook her head. "Not at all! I love it! Itadakimasu!" She took her chopsticks and shoveled the contents of food into her mouth. Her eyes then started to sparkled. "Mmm! It's delicious!"
Massu smiled. "That's good! I'm glad you like it!" The two laughed and he started to dig in too.
Later that night, Massu and Ai were nuzzled together in his bed. Massu was wide-awake and just couldn't fall asleep. So, he tried to catch Ai's attention. "Ai-chan, are you still awake?"
"Yeah, I'm awake, what's up?"
Massu snuggled closer to her. "I can't sleep, will you sing me a lullaby?"
"A lullaby?"
"Uh-huh..." He nodded into the crick of her neck.
Ai pondered for a moment and then smiled. "Then, how about this...?"

Ai giggled at his cute expressions. "Looks like it worked." She then pressed her lips on his. "Good night, Taa-kun. I love you."
Massu kissed Ai back. "Night, Ai-chan. Love you even more."
After hearing that, she smiled. And then, the two fell asleep in each other's arms, peacefully.
