I just got asked to look up this word by my father. I think it is one of those wonderful words that makes English a great language. So specific and so useful. : )

noun ( pl. -ties) formal
a wish or inclination not strong enough to lead to action : the notion intrigued me, but remained a velleity.
ORIGIN early 17th cent.: from medieval Latin velleitas, from Latin velle ‘to wish.’
