Here, now, for your pleasure, is my Two Minute Review of:
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
I'll be honest with you. I wasn't sure that I was going to like this movie. The first one was good and all, but I was kind of "meh" about the second. And the Three Hour run-time didn't help it much.
But, readers, never fear, for Pirates III was, indeed, an excellent movie. Alright, maybe not "edge of my seat every minute of the film!" but excellent nonetheless.
Perhaps the best thing about At World's End is that it oh so neatly ties up the entire bundle of loose threads we were left with in December after Dead Man's Chest. And ties them all up into a neat little bow, too. Every character has his thread, and every thread has his place, and no one is left out, even people you never expected.
The acting is at least as good as you would expect it to be given this cast, if not better, including the oft-talked about Keith Richards cameo. The pacing is spot on, the imagery is beautiful, and the action sequences are top-notch.
To be perfectly frank, the only thing I can find to complain about is the 8 or 10 really bad jokes that almost feel crammed into the script. There is plenty of humor in the movie already, and those few hammed up moments just seem to spoil the mood when they inadvertently pop up.
But, when my only grip with a movie is a few bad jokes out of almost three hours of film, I think we can call this a job well done. I doubt anyone reading this was thinking about NOT seeing At World's End, but just in case you were, please reconsider. You won't be disappointed.
