So far I've visited two home daycares. I liked both, however the first one is a no go, because the playroom is a finished, but UNHEATED addition. I was FROZEN when I left. It was open to the rest of the house, and there was a heater going in a child safe spot, but still, and it's where the kids nap, not to mention, it's more than we currently pay for Maddy's 4th grade tuition at private school.
Daycare #2 was also great. Unfortunately the other kids didn't show today, and the ad I answered last week stated there was only one opening until January. Today, around 5:30 the owner, (who I really liked, very kind, devoted, master's in special ed and worked primarily with preschool kids) posted another ad saying she had immediate openingS. So while she has emailed me twice today saying she was looking forward to seeing boy and I again, and thought that he and her 17 month old daughter got along really well, it makes me wonder. Is she not happy with me, or did something happen with the other kids?
Tomorrow I'm going to visit daycare #3. It's brand new, Montessori based (which I think is fantastic for little ones, and probably elementary age, as long as there are no learning difficulties, but that's another story), this lady has a BA in music, and her montessori certification. She currently only has one child, younger than the boy, I know there are other little siblings that are to young for the age 3+ school kidlet goes to. So we'll see.
I do have a fourth option, which I hadn't thought of. My sitter's next door neighbor, who has watched Alex a few times, and has two kids, one 5, and the other almost 3, who would be great with him. It's kind of my reserve, we'll see how it goes tomorrow, and how much she charges.
No news on the job yet, and I haven't seen anything that's attracted me to apply yet. Trying to think positive.
And of course I'm dying of a cold, someone pass the tissues please?
Surgery on Thursday. My dad had very similar surgery done last week. He was pretty out of it for a few days, but he is 32 years older than I am, and generally has a hard time with surgery. My mom says he's back to his usual (read cranky) self now though.
