Job Hunting, kid stuff, etc

I'm going about this in a relaxed fashion. There's no real rush for me to find a new job, and I know that I could go to work for two bus companies that primarily provide special ed transportation in a heart beat.

I have an umbilical hernia repair coming up on December 6, which will put me out of active commission for a couple weeks (it's just day surgery, and the doc said I'll be able to pick Alex up, but shouldn't do much/any lifting or anything to irritate the newly attached mesh for at least a week). So working before the new year really isn't in the plans, therefore, the relaxed mode of looking for a job.

I did see a blind ad on craigslist the other day that I replied to though, it's for an ophthalmic assistant. Don't ask me why. I saw an ad a week or so ago on the T for an opticianry degree. For some reason I was curious, looked it up, realized it wasn't really what I was looking for, but the eye care field in general seemed interesting, so I did some more research. Then I saw the ophthalmic assitant. No experience required, medical background preferred (I've done EMT- basic and was a medical transcriptionist).  It's a full time job, something I haven't had in the paying variety for over 10 years, but we'll see.

In other news, because of kidlet's learning disability we've decided to make the transition to the public school where she'll get the help she needs. We'll do this after the Christmas holiday. The next meeting in which the district will present us with her IEP is December 10. Kidlet has mixed feeling about changing schools mid-year, but is becoming more accustomed to it and realizes it's probably the better option.

The boy is amazing. He's starting to build with duplo type blocks and is showing great dexterity for a kid his age. While his speaking skills are average, I still compare him to Maddy who was speaking in full sentences at this age. We do use some basic sign language with him and it seems to help, he uses a few of the signs and responds to most of them. We make sure to use the sign and the actual word together though. He definitely is his own little person though. Very determined to do things his own way in his own time. That can be very frustrating for us parents.
