the deed is done--buyer's guilt time!

I ordered an Intuos4 tablet. Large. And I'm going to hunt for a new monitor tomorrow.
I feel kinda freaked out about it. Like a virgin about to have sex with a guy that's...very endowed.

...the simile was very appropriate, I assure you.

I'm budgeted until the next pay period, I've got quite a bit of money to spare. Why am I so freaked out?

art, money

I guess I'm not understanding how these tablets work. They're basically electronic drawing pads, right? You draw on the pad with an electronic 'stylus' cursor and color in the image as needed, then store or download the finished image to a printer or whatever. Am I right so far? (If not, please correct me!)

For a large-ish crowd scene, say 'The Last Supper' size, in order to be sure of your composition as each character is mapped-sketched-finished, you'll need to be able to pull back and view the entire pic on a regular basis. And not on a greatly reduced scale; on the scale you intend the final product to be seen at, or you might miss some vital bits that the critics sure won't miss. That viewing would only be possible on a large tablet, yes? A small tablet could perhaps allow scrolling around the pic, but as I found out a long time ago when I was making safety posters for my command (just assembling pics from clipart and text together; I can't draw even a straight line without a ruler), scrolling around is no substitute for actually looking at the entire picture.

Yup, that all seems to be right. But the image is in the computer--the program--not the tablet, itself. So the size of the tablet doesn't truly matter in that case.

Unless you're talking about a Cintiq. I think that's different, but I'm not sure how that works.

One thing that I am looking forward to is increased sensitivity. I hate having to press down so hard to get a thicker line. It makes me so out of control and wobbly.
