Last Friday it became apparent that my refrigerator was no longer working as it should. Ice cubes were not freezing all the way through, and some items in the freezer were starting to thaw. We had our first real snowfall of the season yesterday and last night. It started about 2PM, and continued off and on into this morning. This was a "lake effect" snow event, so high snow totals were very localized. ...But apparently 8 inches (21 cm) of snow can keep the postal service from its appointed rounds. Our mail carrier never got around to delivering mail on my street today. After a relatively warm winter with little snow, it is finally starting to feel more like winter. We had some beautiful snow last night. There was no wind, so the heavy, wet snow stuck to all the tree branches, making the drab landscape come alive with its magic.

It was sunny this afternoon, and the temperature warmed up into the mid 20s (about -4 C.), which was a huge improvement over the -8 degrees (-22 C.) that we had a few days ago.
