Between Thursday and Saturday we had about a foot of snow (31 cm.). It has been freakin' cold as well. The drain line under my dishwasher froze again. I partly disassembled it and poured nearly a cup of salt down the drain, but it still took about 4 hours to eat its way through the ice. I had a neighbor, Chris, shovel my front walk , stairs and driveway. That cost me $40.00, but I could not have done it myself. Roy did the snow shoveling at the rental properties, which took him 4 hours.
There is an ice dam on my kitchen roof that is causing water to drip through the kitchen ceiling next to the back door. I have to keep a big stock pot under the drip and empty it every day. This has been a perennial problem that has so far eluded correction by tarring parts of that roof every year. The water from the ice dam is also running down the outside of the back wall of the kitchen where it freezes into ugly-looking brown icicles on the siding.
For most of the past 3 days I have stayed inside, keeping warm, and snuggling in bed with Chloe at night. I have been spending a lot of time working on my stamp collection, transferring stamps into a new album that I bought for myself as a Christmas present. The album covers only Syria (up to 1958) and Lebanon (up to 1994). Both of those countries were overflowing their pages in my worldwide album. This new album gives me plenty of space.
1.
Looking out my front door on Saturday morning. The sun felt great, but it didn't make much of a dent in the snow level.
2.
Looking at the brick store from my front porch.
3.
Brown icicles cling to the back wall of my kitchen, under the back porch roof. An ice dam is the culprit.
4.
The bench under the Cherry tree has a nice fresh cushion of snow. Yeah, the lights are still up and lighted on my back yard Spruce. Does anyone else still have their Christmas lights or decorations up?
