Everybody Needs a Holiday

I’ve been getting the feeling lately - pretty frequently too - that we’re right on the cusp of a holiday. Do you ever feel that way? Like you’ve only got a week or so left to finish up before you get to take a well-deserved break? I supposed Thanksgiving is only a little over three weeks off, but I’m talking something bigger. Like I said, it’s just a feeling. But it really reminds me of when I was younger and Christmas seemed like the biggest and most important thing in the entire world. Back then, the idea that someone (who really cared who?) was going to bring you a huge stash of toys to play with was almost unbelievable. Suffice it to say Christmas has lost that sort of luster, but oddly enough it’s become almost as wonderful an event to look forward to since it’s an oasis of leisure time away from the constant work of school.
Today I actually got to eat lunch thanks to the cancellation of my film class, and attended my first meeting for the student film I’m going to be a production assistant on. Nothing too exciting to report on that front - in fact, they’re still not exactly sure what most of us will be doing on the set, other than just helping out in a general capacity. It could be something pathetic like just getting coffee for the cast. Hopefully I’ll be able to aim a little higher. One cool thing about the meeting though was that I got to see the cast perform a reading of the script, which gave me my first bit of insight into how a director goes about making a film, right down to telling his actors how to say their lines.
Oh yeah, I also did my first skit in Japanese class today. My group’s presentation was done as if it were a tour of the Penn State campus, and I got assigned most of the really random roles - mostly strange people that the tour group runs into, like a professor, a male cheerleader, and a dog. As such, the presentation contained a good solid five minutes of me making an ass of myself. But then again, doesn’t every day?

I’m out.
