Shanghai Girls by Lisa See.
I didn't enjoy the way the story was told. Majority of the sentences were simple (partly because the author is trying to portray a Chinese speaking/thinking in English) and thus, made it awkward. I didn't finish Dreaming in Hindi [by Katherine Russell Rich] for the book club. One, I couldn't make it to the book club; second, the book is highly unattractive. It serves as a memoir of immersing yourself in a new language: for the author, it's Hindi. In some ways, I could relate to her experience in learning a new language (me & Japanese)... Brightest Star in the Sky - Marian Keyes
Great light read. Marian never ceases to amaze me. The story was very touching and quite unpredictable at times (booyah!). Her stories usually contain a large cast of characters and she always wove them together nicely. Definitely recommended if you want a light novel!

Okay, so Stephanie Meyer isn't the most critically acclaimed writer. Despite that I read the complete Twilight series and also The Host. Of course, being out of my teenage years, Twilight and its subsequent books were lacking substance. I only completed reading the series for the sake of it -- it being extremely popular. Haven’t really noticed it before but Hong Kong people do eat a lot despite all the dieting going around. It’s hard to describe one’s culture when you’re submerged in it all your life. My sister borrowed a travel book on Hong Kong (and Macau). Travel books usually start with a brief history and an overview of the culture and lifestyle. The ( Read more... )

This book is filled with regret and possible “ifs”. The decision of one person can affect the lives of many others, having the past taunting the future. The reader is left with facts, feelings and perspectives from David, Paul, Catherine and Norah to justify the rights and wrongs of David’s actions.
