A packed half month. Building a practice room for our band, tired of paying for practice space. We'll see how well that works out... Our bassist is lame, not enough balls to talk to us, so he just doesn't show up or call. Musicians... Saw Tool last month(May 21st?), a friend had an extra ticket. While the new album was interesting, it didn't 'do it ( Read more... )

I've read about the NYC pass, good to know it's worth it if you make full use of your time. My grandmother definitely wants to see the WTC site, so I'll do that. I figure the statue of Liberty is a must. Ghostbusters, I didn't even think about that! Soup-nazi would be fun. Hotels are ridiculous, luckily I have a friend who lives in Manhattan who's going to let me crash there a night or two. I'm going to see a show or two, and my boss even offered to cover a performance as 'cultural development'.

Strangely enough, I'm looking forward to Tallinn the most right now, though Helsinki is a close second. I've got a friend who wants to take a trip with me next year, we'll probably go to Philadelphia and Boston before heading to Brussels and Amsterdam. I hope. I'm not sure, I'm trying to find all the people I know who want to travel and coordinate with them. One friend, who made it to India (Joel, I think you met him) is going to Serbia this month. I talked with him about going back to India in the next few years. Another friend just made it back from New Zealand but still wants to travel, so maybe I can go somewhere with him in the future.

Joel....is he the guy who's kinda tall who did a America Peace Corp something or other? Traveling with people who love traveling makes it that much more great.

I have a friend of a friend who took the train from Moscow to China for a vacation one year. I think it took several days, if not a week, to get there. I think it sounds like great fun. Actually, anywhere (almost) sounds like great fun. It sucks the middle east is in such disarray these days. I think doing an ancient city tour would be great.

Traveling is so much fun. I keep threatening to learn another language and really do the Europe backpack thing. It just seems real life keeps getting in the way. This is where writing for national geographic could really be a handy profession.

Yeah, that was Joel; tall, curly hair, peace-corp.

I was about $200 away from visiting Moscow and St. Petersburg, bummer I can't this time, but have to draw the line somewhere. I've read they are trying to open more railways between eastern China and Russia, even more options in the future... Yeah, it does suck about the mid-east, but the UAE is fairly safe, and Syria is not nearly as bad as I was led to believe. Qatar is somewhat friendly to westerners I believe, and I'd visit Cairo in a heartbeat.

Life does get in the way, but you've got to push yourself to accomplish your goals, otherwise you'll end up 60 and sorry you didn't do anything when you had your health. Languages are the hard one, but I'm determined to do it. I know it will take a good 5 years to get anywhere(I want to know a few languages...), I'm not going to be conversation-ready in any other language for a while, but I think if I work hard, and read/listen to the language, I'll be ok. Well, and go abroad to learn some of these, Switzerland is a great place for this as they've got German, French, and Italian as their main languages(+Romansh). I have this thing, I don't want to learn French from a French person... :D

On a side note, if you need someone to talk to about 'things', I'm always here, though I think you probably don't associate enough with me for it to be of use. But I thought I should offer regardless. I can always give you contact info.

The older (and more grizzled) I get, the more I appreciate the value of friends. Thanks for the offer. :) And the same goes here.

As for contact info, I'll show you mine if you show me yours. My email is lraymitch@gmail.com. Feel free to drop contact info/line/whatever!

I certainly agree with your first sentence, and appreciate the counter-offer. I'll drop you a line with my contact info/whatever. Hope all is as well as it could be on the north-eastern front!
