So, before The Week Of Porn, I was on a pretty big comics kick. And, since I just OD'd on the NC-17 stories, I thought I'd go back there - and, yes, I'm a bit of a comics slut. I'm a Marvel girl, and a DC girl. I'm sorry - I just can't pick one! I'm like Ryan Reynolds that way, I guess.
Tonight's podfic is a DCU-SGA crossover: yes, it's that awesome! Written by roga, And Then The Heroes Came Along is just full of those moments where you have to squeal with glee. You so completely know that every single person on Atlantis is a varying level of closeted geek!boy - Rodney says it best, when telling Teyla and Ronon about Batman and Superman: “Every Earthborn member of this expedition would undergo a sex change operation in a heartbeat if that’s what it took to sleep with them.”
And when Batman and Superman accidentally find a way to prove the Many Worlds theory, by traveling from their universe to Atlantis' universe, well.... let's use the phrase "thirteen-year-old girls at a Justin Bieber concert", and let it go. Plus, the way that roga describes John and Rodney viewing Clark and Bruce - how their public personae are different from their secret identities so severely, and how John and Rodney's perceptions of the two heroes are changed as time progresses - well, you just want to snuggle all the Atlantis Expedition members, y'know? 'Cause here are these two larger-than-life figures, and even though the comparison drawn between Atlantis and Gotham made me sniffle a little bit, John got to meet them! And, roga's idea about how SGA is a show in the DC Universe - that was truly inspired.
There are so many lines of comedic wit - so many moments that give a nod to DCU canon, and little in-jokes about the movies and comics and merchandising and Bat Nipples, and all these ways that both Universes are made to seem real to inhabitants of the other - you've just gotta give And Then The Heroes Came Along a try. I'm pretty sure I captured John and Rodney's fanboyishness accurately, and hopefully I managed to convey the gravitas of Batman (THE Batman) as he does his World's Greatest Detecting on Planet MPX-blah-blah-blah.
