We are expecting two inches of rain today. We need it, and Friday is a good day to get rain, since I have to be at work anyway. It's already raining buckets right now and my last doe - Madeline - is due to kid Very Soon Now(tm). Alys came back over here from her new home to spend quality time in the shag shack last fall. She was in the field with Ari at the same time as Dahlia, so as soon as Dahlia went off, I told Mary that Alys was due this week. And here we go. They have a beautiful colored boy! ( photo! )

Breeding is over for this year. I broke up the shag shack and put Richie back in with the boys up front. After some preliminary male stupidity over whether Loki was available for Richie's amorous attention, Ari and Richie got down to business. Baby is small and looks a little undercooked, but she has a full tummy and nothing to say. With that attitude, I'd say she figured out nursing right quick. We are supposed to get down to 25 degrees tonight, so I put the heat lamp on for her. I also evicted Elsa from Emma's pen so that there is no confusion or acccidental niece-a-cide.

After a stressful first day, Taffy's baby boy figured out this whole nursing thing. He is exploring and bouncing around already, especially on top of an upside down food bowl. The water bucket is endlessly fascinating, too.

No promises yet, but Taffy's baby seems to have his act together tonight. His back legs are a mile long, and he is having trouble getting them to both go in the same direction, but his front legs are starting to bounce already ( Read more... )
