I called it correctly: Madeline kidded yesterday afternoon in the kidding pen during the rainstorms. She had a slightly-undercooked single boy baby who is bright white. I guess the Richie red genetics didn't cross well with the recessive black Mona x Jared genetics.
This is Madeline's first time as a mom, so she had no real clue. Baby didn't either. So I was up every three hours to bottle feed the dumpling through the night. He's got a great set of lungs, so he let the world know that he was ready to fight for life. And so we did formula all night and then I switched to milking Madeline and bottling that at the 6:30 feeding this morning.
I just got back inside from watching the baby successfully nurse and then piddle. All systems are "go." And the bottle can go back in the cabinet until next year.
