yesterday i had my first bit of traveling, tho not part of the big trip. i took a day trip up to portland to visit reed. (i had a southwest reward that needed to be used by the 28th)

my flight was at 6am so i had to get up way too early. then i had to take a train and a bus to get from the airport to the campus. there i went to an info session, a physics class, lunch with a host student, a humanities class that was canceled, a tour of campus and an interview. after which i had another bus ride/train pide/plane ride home to arrive at 9pm in oakland. long day.

impressions:
the weirdest thing was my perspective of the school, which was definitely altered by two years at another college. i didn't think it would be, but it definitely was. part of the time i felt too mature for the campus, but that may have been my new haircut. and i really didn't like that there was graffiti all over the walls inside. it made me feel like i was at a school from a cartoon or tv show: so stereotypical. it definitely gave me the impression of being an intelligent place - there seems to be a lot of extra-curricular discussion that happens, but then again they didn't seem to have much by way of dance or theater. or even politics! at a place as leftist as i would expect reed to be there were no real political groups on campus. and tho i would definitely have the possibility of making one, i don't have that kind of drive. well... that's the general feeling.

after my flight, however, i came home to dinner and dessert made by my uncle the ought-to-be chef, and a large envelope. i didn't expect to hear from anyone so soon, but... you are now reading the lj of a recently admitted applicant of UC Santa Cruz!! hurrah!!

oh! and i just finished reading sense and sensibility. just so you know.

and one more thing... another remembered joke of the 25th APCSB -

olive: did you know that if you take the "w" of answer, the "h" of herbs, the extra "a" of aardark and the "t" of listen you could say "what?" over and over again, but no one could hear you?
