On Friday, I went down to Rogue Valley Kennel Club's rally trial for Beam's 1st attempt at a leg in Excellent in Rally. My big goal with Beam in Rally is to work through his enthusiasm in a trial setting. This was our BEST showing yet! I am so so SO very proud of him. He has a beautiful heel pattern, but like in agility, we deal with distractions and trial stress, that can be amplified by having to heel slowly (compared to running in agility). While his position (especially after the jump) caused some missed points, he still had great enthusiasm and very minimal sniffing. Gah I love him! Our 93 pts earned us a 1st place and a lovely blanket. We have some work to do, but I am super pleased with his improvements. One thing that worked was putting a crate very close to the ring, having him watch me be close by, and running to get him right before his run. I may work on this more at agility....

I also have to brag on my awesome students!! Both made their rally debut (and a dog showing debut!) and both earned Q's in Novice A with their young dogs. Carolyn and Amber and Ginger and Dragon - so proud of these 2 women and the hard work they put into their dogs.
