So this weekend I had a vampire movie marathon with the cabal as a house warming party. We were going to watch Interview with the Vampire, Let the Right One In, 30 Days of Night and maybe Shadow the Vampire. We only got through the first two because watching Interview took about an hour and a half longer than it should have because I kept having to pause it to talk about the sequels and what's implicitly going on behind the scenes and how great Lestat is. (The Vampire Chronicles are still that one text I will never get out of my system. I read them differently now, and obviously I see the problems in ways I didn't when I was eleven, but I am still completely incapable of being rational about them). Everyone else smiled and humored me and even asked questions at points because my friends are great. And also that's one of the best things about having rl friends who are fangirls. They get it.
At one point we were in the kitchen making mojitos and I was describing the part pf the plot of The Vampire Lestat/Queen of the Damned where Lestat becomes a rock star and tells the world he's a vampire and writes *songs* about being a vampire and gets both frustrated and exhilarated when no one believes him and everyone thinks it's performance art (even though it is performance art while simultaneously being true), so he just keeps pushing it as much and as far as he can, and...oh. Huh. That's a direct connection I never made before.
sohotrightnow: "So nobody's in on the joke?"
inlovewithnight: "You should tweet at Gabe and ask him if he's ever read this book."
baked_goldfish: "Wow. Everything suddenly makes so much sense."
I've realized that the seeds of pretty much all of my fannish preferences can be found in either The Vampire Chronicles or the original Dark Shadows. I really don't know how I feel about that.

Oh wow, is it Monday. And also well into August. Where did the summer go? I wish I was at the beach. :(
