big finish related things

  • Listened to City of Spires. It's great to hear Jamie again and Frazer Hines and Colin Baker work well together. The guest cast were very good, especially Georgia Moffett as Alice. I really enjoyed it but, being the first part of a trilogy, it provided a lot more questions than answers. There was a lot left unexplained, like what the Red Caps are exactly, what is the black water and who's buying it, the historical inaccuracies and why Jamie doesn't remember the Doctor at all. It seems to all be building to something, so hopefully all will become clear. It seems likely that the Red Caps are related to Cybermen (the similar conversion process) and the "her" mentioned is Zoe, given that both will be back in Legend of the Cybermen, but they could surprise us. I'm hoping to give it another listen before The Wreck of the Titan is released, so maybe I'll have a better idea then.
  • Finally listened to Return of the Krotons. I didn't really know much about the Krotons before this so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a good little story, just perfect for listening to when I was out for a walk. I've almost cleared my back-log now, only a couple more to go. (And then I can buy more!)
  • DWM announced the possible new companions for the Eighth Doctor. I was amazed to find that I'd heard of three out of the four actors. Don't know which I'd prefer, probably one of the guys, but I'm still not sure this is what it seems. It's such a weird way for him to pick a companion that I can't help thinking something funny's going on. Plus, I'm not convinced we've seen the last of Lucie. No real reason, just some things that have been said in podcasts and Vortex. Like in this month's issue: "a truly shattering climax to a series of stories that began so long, long ago with Blood of the Daleks." I'm probably reading too much into this. Again. But you never know. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it. Not long to go now.
  • Cobwebs trailer! Nyssa, Tegan and Turlough! Why is it not July yet?
