Alaska trip, day 8: at sea and Victoria

Jul 17, 2016 15:58

Slept in this morning. After breakfast, J and I did most of our packing; our bags need to be outside by bedtime for delivery to the dock in the morning. (They want most of them before dinner, but we want to put today's clothes in our smaller bags.)

Then I went out for a breath of fresh air and ran into cousins D and L and L's husband and talked to them for quite a while. It was getting chilly on deck, and they wanted coffee, so we went down to the coffee shop. S bought me hot chocolate; good, but I burned my tongue on it as usual. We finally split up, them to the casino (L is apparently doing really well on the slot machines) and me to lunch. It's a bit after 1:30 now.

We get into Victoria at 7:00, and J and I are taking a city tour by horse-drawn trolley. We don't expect to walk around much afterwards. It might be nice to buy a small souvenir, but we're both pretty broke at this point, not to mention tired. Maybe if there's a shop right by the dock...

I don't know if I'll have time to update this tonight; it may have to wait until I'm back home. Tomorrow is another early morning, with disembarkation and the trip to the airport for the long flight back to the East Coast.
