OK, this is strange.

I volunteered to participate in a "corneal thickness study" in the OSU Department of Ophthalmology. They want to see how LASIK surgery affects the thickness of the cornea. My laser vision is contributing to science! (And I'm getting paid fifty bucks.)

Wednesday was my four-month LASIK checkup, and all is still well.  My right eye is still 20/20, my left is still 20/15, and overall I'm still at 20/15.  Working eyeballs are cool!

I went to my 30-day LASIK evaluation today, and all is well.  They re-mapped my eyeballs, which showed that the front of my corneas are now almost completely flat, whereas they were very dome-shaped before this all began.  The coolest news is that my vision, which started at around 20/4000, is now 20/15!  My right eye is down to 20/20, and my left ( Read more... )

Today was my seven-day post-operative exam (yes, my seven day checkup took place on day five; calendars are useless in my world), and everything still looks good.  Thankfully, I never experienced the scratchy feeling that the other doctor warned me about last week.  I'm down to about 20/25 in each eye, but when they work together I can see 20/20.  ( Read more... )

On the morning of day three I had the "hey, I can see everything!" moment when I woke up, as stinky_monky  noted on her journal on Friday.  It's a good thing she went to work that day or she'd have gone nuts listening to me say "Wow, can you see that tree?" or "I can read the computer screen clearly!" or "I drove to Jack-In-The-Box without corrective lenses ( ( Read more... )

Unfortunately, the protective contact lenses hampered the healing process a bit, and the extreme nature of my correction meant that my vision was not perfect when I woke up Thursday morning, so I didn't have one of those stereotypical "waking up and seeing the alarm clock clearly" moments that most other LASIK patients experience the day after ( Read more... )
