Monday the 24th, we went to PSEG. That's right people- the power plant!! (*insert lone clapper here*) Was very very hot outside. Have some pics of yours truly being a moron. We constructed the crab cube. Dr. Beekey couldn't find the t-joints for the corners so me and Gabe used yellow electrical tape. See pic below!!
And we actually used the cube! It's 1/4m^3 ( a quarter meter cubed) and from memory I think it held 25 crabs. We kept it on the intake structure and put netting in it then loaded it with horseshoe crabs the diver got from the bottom of the intake. Stupidly we forgot to take a pic of what the crabs looked like in it. And who says you can't have fun at work!?
We listened to sonar using the hydrophone off both sides of the structure. The rope and the wire held a mic we lowered into the water. That's us we should be waving! He's listening & I'm recording. Then it was my turn to wear the goofy headphones but no pics of that. Oh darn. hehe.
Oh and here's me & Gabe "working." In this pic he is actually saying to Dr. Mattei, "Oh you want me to be doing something?"
Ok enough picture fun! We got free lunch after that at Subway...thank you Dr Mattei! Then we went to the office and finished the web page finally. I hope it looks good. I just typed up a bunch of sections and put corresponding pics and links and sent it to the 'webmaster.' Ooooh fancy.
Today was an insanely busy day. I was at the Bio office helping Dr. Mattei until almost 8PM. And I came to the office at 10AM. I was glad I could help her though..she's getting pretty overwhelmed. She just reminds me of my mom so I want to help her. I think they're about the same age too. Gee I miss my mom. :-( Ok before I cry--- today I uploaded pics, including the ones above, and burnt them on cds and then made a cd to send to CT DEP to show them the progress of Project Limulus. And I also made a word document with corresponding descriptions about each pic. Very nice I might add. haha Then after 15 mins of arguing Dr. Mattei & Dr. Beekey came to a comclusion on how to properly write the data when we go on the boat tomorrow and use the GPS. Their fight was funny- with diagrams on the board and everythng. So basically I just input 0 every time we stop the boat. Then each sonar tagged crab I designated a specific number (1-68 or something like that) and then input that number if I find it with sonar. So that included a mini field trip outside where Beekey and Mattei figured out how to use the Palm Pilot GPS thingy. Then Dr Mattei needed to also send the state articles and various other publishings about her work. And she had three disorganized folders and wanted me to make a nice portfolio out of them for her personally- just her office. And then photocopy everything and send a packet to the state. It took FOREVER. Articles dating back to 1998!! But it was awesome to see the progress. And one prick of a writer wrote an aricle and called her "Ms. Mattei" thorough the whole thing! When she's clearly a Dr!! So rude!! But, I feel productive and needed. :) It's a nice feeling. I gotta write down my mileage to get some money for that and Dr. Mattei said I might even be able to get reimbursed for when my brakes broke. That would be awesome. I also called the payroll lady. I WILL get my check Friday! And Dr. Mattei confirmed it with the Dean. So man oh man I need money!!!
I'll tell you how the boat trip goes tomorrow with Gabe & Dr. Botton.
And Happy Birthday Rachel! You're 21 now- you oldie! :-D
