Wow, things really turned for the better. I feel like God smiled on me today after my being so upset and disappointed from yesterday. In almost 3 hours me, Gabe, Mark(Dr. Botton), and Guy tagged over 150 horseshoe crabs. And I said to myself "Take that Luc." We went out today at 1:30 and came back to SHU by 6 (because me and Gabe dropped off Guy and Mark then went out and got Subway) But it was extremely productive and we made a really efficient assembly line. Mark collected, Gabe and Guy tagged and measured, and I recorded everything. But then Guy got really cocky in his tagging and it seemed as if he was stabbing the holes in the animals and one female seriously spouted out blue blood, like it was a water fountain and it kept going as she went back into the water. This was followed by the Brit's chuckle and retort of "It'll heal up in the water." Then Dr. Botton seemed to get irriated collecting so many crabs that he was just pulling them out of the water holding 2 in each hand by the telson. Then after we tagged 'em this one time he hurled them back into the water. Followed by a "Oh don't worry they're much more at home in the water. Look at 'em go." Oh and get this we watched Dr. Botton feel up both crabs. He was "showing us the repoductive systems of both crabs" But we know he was getting something else out of it... He was squeezing thte male testes and said "Sometimes if you massage and coax it enough sperm will come out" The he said it about the female's ovary except that he expected eggs to come out. I have no idea how I didn't laugh. Oh and my title is because after we tagged the crabs we'd turn them over and they'd make their way back to the water. But one of the males kept coming back to my feet and I said. "No you may not mate with me!" Oh and Dr. Botton found gay horseshoe crabs- but it's because the one that was trying to mate was blind so he had no idea what he was doing. But I dunno because he had a rainbow telson and a pink sash... I dunno....
So tomorrow is going to be a LOOOONG day on the boat. And even longer because Dr. Botton wanted to go back to Sandy Point at 10AM and the boat trip is not till 12:30. And who knows how long the boat trip will be- maybe till 6 or 7. I'm going to be exhausted!! No idea what's in store for Wed. Hopefully me and Gabe can just go out ourselves and maybe we'll invite Kruti if she'll go with us. (Or maybe she'll just come over afterward...I hate that Mattei has things planned for us and never tells us until the day before or changes it.) Ugh. Well I can't complain- the weather was great today and we really got things accomplished and things are coming together. :D Amen!
