Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6,

Making good time in the US, having just crossed over into Louisiana, all decided it would be a good thing to book a place before it got dark. Tired, stiff, and dirty from the long trip Gabriel decided a shower and bed sounded as close to heaven as he was ever likely to get. He didn’t say much when they booked two rooms (one for Maya and her brother, the other for Gabriel) just pulled out what little money he gathered on the way to pay for his share when he felt a warm hand cover his own.

He looked up to give Maya a funny look when she shook her head at him pushing his hand away from the counter “You can pay for dinner, I’ve got this.” From her other shoulder Gabriel could feel Alejandro glaring at him but chose to ignore it. He was hungry and the thought of food sounded amazing to him, he just really needed a shower first. “Okay,” he said directly to Maya, “how does 7:30 sound? I’d like to clean up first.”

Maya looked down at her dirty clothes, hand absently pulling at the hem of her top; and nodded her head in agreement. “Si, we will meet you back here when we are ready.” Gabriel watched them retreat to their room, Alejandro lean closer to his sister, whispering something in her ear. Gabriel’s jaw clenched, fingers tightening into a fist when Alejandro’s hand wrapped around Maya’s arm. He turned away walking down to his room before getting too agitated. Dumping his bag on the bed, as he headed for the bathroom, hoping he’d feel better after a shower.

Freshly washed, clean clothes and a full belly had Gabriel feeling like a little better, but something was still bothering him. Maybe it was the way Ale kept hanging around and staring at him. He decided that Ale needed to relax and convinced Maya to order a couple rounds of whatever was on special while he provided the liquor. It worked. For every swig of Gabriel’s beer, Ale threw back a shot.

“I don’t know why he’s eating with us, Maya.” Alejandro said glaring at Gabriel while relaxing back in his chair. Gabriel threw a curious look to Maya while rubbing his bottle between his fingers. Maya threw a firm look to her brother “Not now Alejandro can’t you be grateful? He’s paying for the meal.”

Ale threw a dirty look at Gabriel. “That’s because you used our money to pay for his room.”

“What is it now?” Gabriel said to Maya as he let out a sigh, trying not to roll his eyes. Alejandro's presence made his head hurt.

Ale leaned over the table. “I do not like you, Gabriel” he said in a voice that mocked the one his sister used when ever she talked to him. “You are no better than a dog.” He spat. Maya winced at the sound; Gabriel didn’t have to know Spanish to get Ale’s meaning.

“Finish your drink and stops causing a scene, Jandro!” she snapped “You’re acting like a spoiled brat.” He moved to say something else, but she cut him off slapping her hand down loudly on the table. “I don’t want to hear it, Ale!” Her brother sat back in his chair sulking. She rolled her shoulders trying to work out the tension. The music from the juke box filled the room and Gabriel noticed Maya swaying in her chair weather from anxiousness or enjoyment he wasn’t sure. He leaned over while Maya stretched her arms over head and reached under the table to squeeze her knee. She turned her head giving him a tired look, the edge of her mouth pulling up in an apologetic smile. “Sorry for my brother. He is very tired.” Gabriel looked into his lap hiding his own smile with a soft nod. “Then maybe he should go to bed.” He offered, catching her eye through his lashes. He held the gaze as his hand tightened below the table.

Alejandro made a rude noise as he got up from the table. “I’m not going to sit here and watch you make a fool of yourself with that dog.” Maya looked after her brother as he left the bar, shaking her head with at sigh. Gabriel used the distraction to softly caress his way up Maya’s leg before putting it back on the table. He took another deep drink from his brown, bottle feeling it warm in his hands. He placed it back on the table, wiping the condensation down his shirt. “I’m sorry, Maya. I don’t know what I ever did to offend him.” She swung around facing him again. “It’s not your fault, Gabriel. My brother’s just …” her words trailed off hanging in the air “Tired?” he suggested. She nodded a sad smile on her full lips.

They didn’t speak for a while enjoying the sound of the music. Finishing off his bottle he watched her from behind the glass as her fingers tapped along to the rhythm. He put the bottle on the table and began picking at the label. The image was more than half way gone before he realized what he was doing. He blushed as he pushed the bottle away from him, fisting his hands as he hunched over the table. He cleared his throat and glanced over to her. She was staring right at him. “What is it, Gabriel?” there was an amused glint to her voice. He recognized, knew by now she was talking to him when she used that voice. He blushed again, his cheeks hurting with the failed suppress of a smile.

She reached across the table and traced her fingers along the back of his hand. She tilted her head contemplating the veins and tenants. “You have beautiful hands.” Her voice was light and thoughtful. It made his head spin with intoxication, lust and the help of cheap beer. He extended his fingers while she laced smaller ones through his, feeling the skin and the softness against his own. He pressed his palm into Maya’s wrist, closing his hand around it in a warm grip. The alcohol made him brave, but his voice still caught in his throat, “W-would you like to dance, Maya?”

She smiled hugely at him. His hand squeezed her wrist excitedly, making her smile falter slightly. “Sorry,” he loosened his hold rubbing his thumb along the tender flesh. She twisted her arm from his grasp and wrapped her hand around his, tugging him to the dimly lit, make shift dance floor. She rested her hands on his hips pressing her thumbs into the hip bones; he jumped, gripping her shoulders painfully when her fingers dug into muscle. “You are ticklish?” she fidgeted in his grasp and tried to smile up at him, but her smile disappeared when she noticed the veiled pain on his face.

There was a grim set to his jaw and his breathing was labored. “Oh! Gabriel! I’m so sorry,” she fanned her hands frantically over his wound. “I forgot,” she winced a little when his hands tangled in her hair pulling slightly. “It’s okay,” he relaxed his grip moving his hand to caress her face and running the thumb over her mouth. He pulled her closer, his hands never leaving her hair when her arms curled around his small waist. Their bodies pressed together like two perfect puzzle pieces as he leaned closer to her, just barely brushing his lips against hers. He felt her heartbeat quicken through their clothes, their bodies. She was so warm in his arms, making him ache. He kissed her.

A/N: Pulling the label off of a beer bottle supposedly means that you are sexually frustrated. :D just so ya know. ;)
