Q2. Why A's Papa and Mama Don't Live in the Same House?

Oct 05, 2015 10:33

My brother is divorced with a kid around my daughter's age. They have been living with us since the divorce, which happened years ago before my daughter could even remember what my nephew's mother looked like. Which is why, I guess she never questioned our living arrangement. Until now, that is. She must have finally realized that something was off when she has her Papa and Mama and Baby Brother living at home with her, but her cousin only has his Papa.

And this is how it went...

Daughter (D): Mama, why A's Papa and Mama don't live in the same house?
Me (M): Well, that's because they are divorced
D: What is divorced?
M: It's when married people decide to separate.
D: Why they want to separate?
M: I actually don't know (I seriously don't know what to tell her here cos I'm one of those people who don't believe in divorce. If you have problems with your spouse, you either fix it or just live the rest of your lives together miserably. That is unless your spouse is abusive, then you should walk out as soon as possible)
D: Why you don't know??
M: Some people decide to get divorced because they have problems and that they can't solve. But I think every problems can actually be fixed if you try hard enough and pray to God. And even after you pray and try you realise that you still can't find the solution, then you should just learn to accept it and live with it. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?
D: ??????

Well, that ended right there. So far, she hasn't asked any further but I'm sure that as time goes by, she would start having more questions about it. Great.....
