My husband is rarely home. He leaves for work at 5.30am (before the kids wake up) and arrives home at around 9pm (after the kids has gone to sleep). So the only time he sees the kids is during those very rare moments when he can get off work early or the weekend. In comparison, my brother who lives with us, leaves for work at 9am and arrives home at 6.30pm. So of course after a while my daughter started to think..
D: Mama, why Papa need to work all the time???
M: If Papa doesn't work, how are we gonna get money? Without money we can't buy food to eat, pay our electricity bill or pay for your school.
D: But A's Papa doesn't work all the time.
M: Well, different people have different work. Some work requires longer hours, some don't. And A's Papa's office is very close to our house while Papa's one is very far.
D: What does Papa do at work?
M: He needs to have meeting with people, use the computer... (I know, this is not a good answer but a 4 year old wouldn't understand business lingo, right?)
D: But he can do that at home!!!
M: No he can't. The people he needs to meet with are at the office right? That's why working people have offices. So that they can meet their work friends and work together.
D: Why is Mama not working??
M: Because I want to stay home at take care of you.
D: But why Grandma is working?
M: Because Grandma's children, Mama and A's Papa, are already grown up. We're independent now, so Grandma doesn't need to take care of us all the time anymore.
D: But I don't like food, so we don't need to buy it. Papa doesn't need to work anymore.
M: But if we don't eat, we will get sick. If we become too sick, we might die
D: What's die????
M: ..... (to be continued)
