new con = new costumes!

I hadn't given any thought to costumes for next year's MSCon until Llama asked about it last night. We had a brief "er..." moment, but then the ideas started flooding... so... two new costumes in the planning! Whee! We like pairing up so we don't feel quite so silly. So if we feel like going the comfort route, we have Mulder and Scully to fall back on. But the two new costume pairs we came up with ought to be pretty freakin' awesome, if we can pull them off...

First off, we're doing a Gentleman and minion pair from the Buffy episode "Hush." I'm the minion. XD That's probably our more original idea... the other is really more my thing, but Llama agreed to pair with me for moral support. (He's cool that way. He did Wolfwood when I did Vash even though he wasn't nearly such an anime nut as me.) Anyway, being utterly predictable, I caved in to temptation and am now drawing up plans for a Baldwin IV costume. I figure if I survived the Crow costume --tight black clothes, black electrical & duct tape, full facepaint, in August, in downtown Atlanta -- I can survive being completely wrapped in bandages with a massive cloak and a mask in an air conditioned building in March. (I can dream.) I'm doing the Kerak/war costume... it's just easier to figure out than the all-white robes and stuff he wears in Jerusalem, since there's a bit of color to it. Llama's doing a Hospitaller uniform as a go-with. Not really David Thewlis' Hospitaller, just the surcoat & cloak, maybe a cap. We're still debating what to do about chain mail for both KoH outfits.

So Llama and I got up at 7 this morning and went to Tupelo to go thrift store-hopping, which means I'm pretty much set. I'm doing the minion first, as it won't take as long. Right now I'm in the middle of slapping together a shirt that I can stick some belts on here and there to make a straight jacket... after that I get to start ripping "bandages," and what fun that'll be. *rolls eyes* But I can't stop rumpling and fetishing the fabrics I got for Baldwin's tunic and cloak, 'cause they be shiny and purtyful. ^_^

Anyway, I'll hopefully take a few pictures as I go, and definitely of the finished products.

Done now.
