Mom Update

My mom went to the Cleveland Clinic yesterday for her second consultation. The prognosis isn't good. He (the doctor) told her she received the best chemo available and the cancer is still spreading. It's spreading through her lungs and she can feel it back in her parotid gland. There are no case studies available that would work for her. Or that are pertinent for her kind of cancer. There is some random experimental treatment available which he doesn't recommend. The basic concept is that you give dosages of chemo to the test patients, aka guinea pigs, to see how much they can handle before puking. He said it'll basically help the drug companies and other patients, but not her. I think they're going to do another surgery to try to figure out why she keeps coughing. Something about an obstructed airway or something similar.

She was so matter of fact about it. "It's all in God's hands." My sister said something like, "People are really encouraged by the way you (my mom) handles this with so much strength and courage." Well excuse me for not caring about the rest of the world and them being encouraged by her strength. I just want my mom to live longer. But evidently that's too much to ask. No, she didn't give me a time table. I doubt she would have, actually. My dad probably would if I asked, but I won't. Not today. Another day maybe.
