I am a dork
Maybe because work has not been brain intensive lately, I have been all geeky on this roman outfit we are putting together for Dave's knighting and this roger ii mantle thing -- I stumbled onto a cool bibliography from someone's doctoral thesis on art from this area and found a 15 page article just on the mantle ; I ordered the article and it will be here Wednesday. I am hoping it will detail the construction methods of the garment a bit because that thing is heavy and it must have had some stabilizing layers and If I am going to take a year or more time making something , I sure as hell want it to be as durable as possible.
I am also going to have to teach myself "underside couching" -- because that is apparently how most of the gold work is laid down cause it drapes better than regular top couching, which is what I usually do. May need to make someone a purse or cuffs to practice before I start on the mantle proper. I cannot believe how excited I am about this mantle thing -- not the small fast creativity I was looking for, but I do think it will be a good "soothing" long term project. And so shiny and sparkly when finished.
