Precipitation in the form of snow mixed with rain is predicted for the next two days, with a warm-up starting Sunday. But if by chance the huge arctic air mass to the north decides to slip south just a tad, or decides to stay in place or something, P'town would effectively be closed. The "extremes" of climate here are in quite a narrower range than farther toward the center of the continent (or historically have been), and when the beginnings of glaciation get laid down and stay for a week or three, we just... wait it out. There were ice-ruts on the streets leading to Big Avenue that were a foot deep for a day or two, as the effect of last year's storm faded away.
So: emergency trip to get snow salt. I do not need or want a 25 lb. bag, living in an apt, because I won't be using it all this year (I trust!), and it can be very messy and bulky to keep around. So I divided it into four one-gallon plastic bags. Perhaps I will give away one or two to neighbors.
And I took some pictures. This one's quite sucky, but it shows the main points. After opening the bag, I spooned a little into the plastic bags until they stood upright, and then carefully poured them about halfway full. I'll label and date the bags, and then store them (if there are any left), in plastic handle-sacks.
