i passed!  whoo!  now i'm trying to come down from the emotional rollercoaster that was yesterday. 

Tomorrow I defend.  Holy crap.  What's making me worried is that I don't really even feel nervous.  That is unusual for me the night before a Big Thing.  Right now I still need to finish up my talk, just making sure it flows and I have all the info I need in it but I'm surprised I'm not more nervous.  Maybe it will it later on tonight?

i found out thursday afternoon i got the job i interviewed for on tuesday.  yay!  employment!  i was told that they'd been dead set on hiring another cultural anthro (since the job is teaching cultural anthro classes) so the fact that i managed to get past such a big hurdle is pretty huge in itself.  this fall is kind of a trial run but it seems ( Read more... )

i just found out that my request to the graduate school for money to purchase chemicals was approved.  this means i can actually start my dissertation project instead of just writing about it!  this means i might finish when i want to.  yay, there's an end in sight!  oh my god this makes me so excited. 

jorge cham came to MSU this evening to give his 'power of procrastination' talk. for those of you not in the know, he is the creater of phd aka piled higher and deeper, a comic about grad student life.  it is very accurate as well.  i have felt everything that gets made fun of in the comic.  in any case, his talk really focused on procrastination ( Read more... )
