2012!

Feb 01, 2013 15:19

My tenth year doing the same survey. Thats... That's a long time. If my survey was a person they would be in 5th grade. Gah! I'm getting old.

Year TEN and counting.

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Moved in with a significant other

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Well, the jello-mold of a path that I made for 2012 was a total bust. That being said, it WAS made out of jello, and the mold that took its place has been amazing. I'm still seizing all the damned time, but I'm living with an amazing man, I have an amazing cat, an irritating dog, healthcare, disability, and really positive prospects for the future. I just want to sail through the changing ocean tides for 2013.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin did, and the other one got knocked up to compete. It's a pretty gross situation.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No deaths! Man, my family knows how to hang on.

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada and USA

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
Money. Maybe an engagement ring. We'll see.

7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
August 10th, because that's when I moved in with the best guy pretty much ever.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Going a humongous change and not falling to pieces. Moving in with Adam, sharing a space, a bed, a dinner table... I thought when I decided to do that I'd be terrible at it. It was obnoxiously easy. I don't know if I underestimated myself or if Adam is just that amazing, but it still counts. I'm Captain Hates Change, and managed this one with grace and poise.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Potty training Teddy, our puppy. I also kind of feel like my job at maintaining friendships has taken a huge hit. There are a lot of things that would make it easier to fulfill that role that are out of my control, but I'm still disappointed in myself. Those people are still just as important to me, I just haven't been putting in the time. I should work on that.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
It kind of felt like I was in a constant state of injury this year. I broke my nose! And my toe! And something in my knee! The combination of epilepsy and clumsiness is a cruel mistress.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
It's a piece of shit and it's already breaking, but getting my dinner table for $80 when it should have been $200 makes me puff up with pride. Those genes from Grandma Green and my dad weren't completely lost on me.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My sister's. My god, Shelley has made a total transformation this year. She FINALLY got her degree, she quit her shitty corporate AT&T job, spent a month and a half in Europe, broke up with her boyfriend of 5 years, got a job with a catering company owned by a french guy, and is now dating someone new. I just want to jump and shout in how happy I am for her. My parents and Adam's behaviors were fucking incredible, but Shelley took the cake in awesomeocity this year.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
A large portion of the republicans in power. ObamaCare has saved my life, literally and figuratively, and when people are narrow-minded about social issues as well as wanting to take away what is keeping me kicking, well, I get appalled and depressed.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Bills. Moving out, taking over my cell phone contract, and putting food in the house isn't inexpensive. I get disability money each month, but the majority of that goes towards keeping things running smoothly.

15. What did you get really excited about?
Teddy.

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
Someone That I Used to Know by Gotye

17. Compared to this time last year, are you
i. happier or sadder?: happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? fatter.
iii. richer or poorer? richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Saving dollars.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Seizing.

20. How did you spend New Year's?
Last year, to ring in 2012, I went to Greensboro with Adam. Liz threw a lovely party, and I had a marvelous time, what with the staying up until 6am. New Year's Day, we woke up and got the most delicious breakfast in all of history (grits, hashbrowns scattered all the way, and biscuits & gravy), napped on a handsome man while watching a B movie, had chinese food, and watched Finding Nemo in a room full of some of the most fantastic people that I know. It was so perfect.

This year, actual New Years totally blew. Taylor and Jess came into town and the four of us drank far too much and went way too far. Then we went to a strip club, and went even further than we should of. Adam got Mad Drunk, and Jess got Nuts Drunk and I ended up ringing in the New Year in the parking lot trying to figure out what was going on with Adam. Terrible.

Adam and I decided to do another New Years afterward. We went to an arcade and won a t-shirt, ate wings and watched a football game, went out for a night on the town, which included dancing at a latin cantina and drinking lots of tasty things, meeting cool new people at Natty Greens, and playing pool at Deep South. Then we went home, toasted, talked about what we wanted for 2013, and had lovely sex. Much, MUCH better.

22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
I stayed in love, and realized it was the kind of love that will be with me for the rest of my life.

24. What was your favorite TV program? of 2012?
How I Met Your Mother still reigns supreme.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I kind of hate my cousin, Natasha. She has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, she's cruel, a liar, blech. I don't even want to talk about her. Thinking about the kind of person that she is and what she does disgusts me. Ew awful ew.

26. What was the best book you read?
Nick Hornby. Don't ask me to pick one, just... The discovery, love, and purchasing of Nick Hornby books has been awesome and crazy and wonderful. Nick Hornby.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I saw Ben Folds with the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra and that concert was life-changing. He's not a new musical discovery by any stretch of the imagination, and Best Imitation of Myself was my favorite album last year, but that concert was incredible. I laughed. I cried. I smacked the guy sitting in front of me in the back of the head for texting and talking during the concert.

28. What did you want and get?
Independence.

29. What did you want and not get?
Less Seizures.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Part of me wants to say Ghost Rider, even though I can't remember anything that happened during it, but my time in the theater was wicked fun.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 26. Seizures have robbed me of the majority of my memories of my birthday, but I know that I saw the girls (Ashley and Khaki) at Khaki's house on the actual day, Adam stopped by and dropped off my present, and I was hungover for a party at Adam's the following day.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not seizing.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
My favorite article of clothing is the "pajama dress". A dress that is comfortable enough to be worn as pajamas, but cute enough to be worn out in public. Those and yoga pants have been my uniform of 2012.

34. What kept you sane?
Adam. Adam Adam Adam Adam.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Barack Obama. Thank god for Barack Obama. Heather Armstrong, too. And Randall Munroe!

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The election, as well as that Amendment One catastrophe.

37. Who did you miss?
My Greensboro peeps.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Patrick Little.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

"Can I sail through changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life? Uh huh"

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. Stevie Knicks may not know, but I've shown myself that I can, and hope to continue doing so for 2013.
