Some months? Suck beyond the telling of it. I'd list all the ways, but I don't want to depress people and hijack f'lists.
My grandmother's funeral was very, very nice. It was the most beautiful day -- about 80 degrees, and not a cloud in the perfectly blue sky. Her grave (and my grandfather's, of course) are under the boughs of a lovely shade tree, and they're surrounded by several brothers and sisters, which is nice. (My dad says Uncle Ted's probably been talking my poor Grandpa's ear off for thirty years, but my Grandma will put a stop to that, real quick).
The service was very nice -- my cousin, my second cousin and I did readings at the mass. I felt a little awkward, hoping I wasn't going to get struck by lightning, when I headed for the altar, y'know? My cousin's reading made me cry -- he has some learning disabilities, and he hates reading, and he especially hates reading in front of people. The idea that he eagerly volunteered to do a reading, and that he practiced so hard for it, well, it made a mess of me.
The grandchildren and great-grandchildren released doves, which was kind of cool. I went first, and the same cousin who did the reading went second. When my cousin released his, this hawk came swooping down from aforementioned shade tree, and almost got that poor dove. He had his talons extended, and missed the dove by maybe four inches. It was pretty crazy, and I'm glad he didn't get him.
During the week between her death and the funeral, I got a couple of emails that said my site was down. Clicked over, and sure enough, it was. The domain expired and the damn hosting company didn't bother to let me know it was up for renewal. Last straw, y'know?
So I switched companies, and when I called the original company, they asked me for my info, and the guy told me, "Well, we bought your original company out last year, and, um, we have no record of you."
Excuse me? I've been with this company for five years, and you have no record of me? Although, as I thought about it, I realized the hosting bill for last year never came. The guy realized it at the same time I did, and he said, "So... you never paid for last year's hosting."
When I didn't answer, he said, "I guess we won't be worrying about that now."
Damn straight, 'cause I ain't payin' ya.
Anyway, everything is switched over to the new site now. I put up some previously unpublished stuff, all Bones fic:
Alter Ego ~ S1 Ficlet. Brennan spots a familiar face in a very unexpected place.
The Silent Army ~ Dual ficlets about the terrors of the night. Set in Season 1 and Season 3.
I also updated the Drabbles page with four previously unpublished S3 drabbles.
I'm working on some other stuff that may go up soon, including an unfinished DVD-style commentary for one of my B/A fics, which has been languishing on my hard drive for a few years now.
