Plays and Parties and sPending money!

Time for a long-awaited update!   At least, I would assume it's been long-awaited.  I've been waiting a long time to write it.

First, a recap of Aida.  Then a brief rant about my biochem test (well, maybe we'll skip that one), then a recap of my first encounter with a LAN party.  I'll cap it off with a stellar shopping trip.  (It's been an unusually eventful week.)

So, a few weeks ago, while at Waffle Night at my grandmother-in-law's house, rhb and I were informed that we were going to go see a play.  Said grandmother had extra tickets for us.  I was a little surprised, but when I found out it was in the Hale Theater (which I had previously heard favorable reviews for) and that the play was Aida (which I knew nothing about, except that Peter likes the soundtrack and I did a skit to one of the songs (My Strongest Suit) from it at girls' camp one year), I decided it sounded pretty fun.  We had some flexibility about what day to go, so we settled for this past Wednesday.

End of back story.

Upon our arrival to the theater, I was surprised at how tiny it was.  I'd heard it was a round stage with seats on all sides, but I didn't expect it to be so small.  The stage was literally only 3 yards by 4 yards or something.  And we were on the first row, with barely enough room for my feet between the seat and the stage.  (That was kind of cool, although I almost wished we were on the second or third row...)  But as soon as the play started, I forgot all about how tiny it was or anything else.  The acting was amazing, the costumes were amazing, and of course the play was amazing.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Afterwards, I wondered why... and I think it's because I didn't know anything about the play beforehand, I just got to learn and enjoy as it unfolded.  I had no idea it was even set in Egypt before that.  And it reminded me how much I love seeing plays (although I can be kind of picky about what plays I like to see).  Probably my favorite part was the music.  That play has a great soundtrack.  I can see why Peter likes it so much.

On to biochem.  I was going to take it Friday after class at 2 or 3, but I realized when I got to campus that my ID was at home in my other jeans.  Curses.  I ended up going home and then coming back after 4 (when parking is much easier) to take it, which was fine but I ended up making rhb wait for me after he got done with work because it took longer than I thought it would.  And the testing center was so crowded that I had to go take it in the overflow area instead of the music room.  I blame the lack of classical music for my less-than-desirable score, although I have to wait until it closes to find out exactly how undesirable it was.  (It wasn't that bad, especially if everyone else did worse.)

Next, the LAN party!

After said biochem test, I decided that maybe I would go to rhb's work LAN party after all, on the theory that I really didn't want to be home alone all Friday night long.  Especially since these things traditionally go until 5am.  So I gathered up all my homework, thinking I could just do it there instead of at home, and brought my computer just in case.  Haha.  I ended up playing Spore the entire time.  The atmosphere of 20-30 people packed into a smallish room, all playing Starcraft and Warcraft and othe crafty games while eating chips and cookies and crackers and drinking soda was not very conducive to studying.  (But don't worry.  I made up for it tonight.)  We finally left around 12:30, although the party showed few signs of winding down.

Today I had a lovely time sleeping in, snuggled up under all the blankets which I evidently stole in the night.  As I was lying there awake, trying to decide if I was ready to get up, Nathan rolled over and asked if I could go buy him doughnuts for breakfast.  I have to admit, it was a little out of the blue (I thought he was still asleep, and asked him if he was really awake) but rather entertaining nonetheless.  We ended up getting some on the way to our first destination of the day's shopping trip (it took two stops though, because Allen's didn't have glazed plain doughnuts).  And then I felt really loaded up on sugar.

At Kohls, we found a pair of jeans with a cute belt for me, and were pleasantly surprised when they gave us the $1.90 we had left on our card as cash back instead of leaving it on the card to molder and languish (because what can you get for under $2?).  Then we headed across the street to the mall, where we made many stops and bought me much clothing, all of which (almost) was on sale.  Yay!  We also took advantage of GameStop's "buy two, get one free" deal on used games that was going on, as rhb found a very good deal on an X-box 360 earlier this week and we "needed" games for it to make it worth buying.  (As a side note, it's absolutely outrageous how much new X-box games cost.  $60??  For a game?  Good thing we got used ones.)  Anyway, it was pretty much a day of good deals.  And spending money.  But I figure if we only do it every 3-4 months or so, it averages out to a reasonable amount.

Anyway, that's all for my story backlog.  I think I'm going to go eat some strawberries.
