Spring Waltz: I sold myself for true love and all I got was to first base.

Spring Waltz

He's a famous pianist. She's a plucky traveler with tickets to his next concert. Together, a delicious OTPfest that melts in your mouth until you lick every drop clean!

Spring Waltz dropped from the kdrama tree and hit every branch on the way down: plucky heroine, hot angsty hero, long-lost childhood love, traumatic pasts, secret identities, love triangles, scheming secondary characters, and plenty of beautiful people running around in melodrama of their own making.

It's awesome.

Also, the prettiest freaking drama I've ever seen.

Once upon a time there were childhood sweethearts...

...TRAGICALLY SEPARATED BY FATE.

Many years later, Jae Ha is a rude, snotty, haughty pianist and Eun Young is happy-go-lucky sunshine girl who just so happens to visit the same city where he's giving a performance. You know what's coming, right?

Right! Mutual dislike.

The once-upon-a-time OTP are actually squabbling strangers who have no idea they were childhood soulmates. Paging destiny, you've made an internal error!

Jae Ha makes a hilarious jerk for two reasons: one, he's a skinny Korean piano player and that will never be intimidating, and two, HE LOOKS LIKE A STUFFED ANIMAL. With the big eyes and soft sweaters and wavy anime 'do, it's like the Snuggle bear opening his mouth and trying to cut a bitch.

THE FACE OF SATAN.

LOOK AT THAT RED TEDDYBEAR SWEATER. HE'S SUCH A JERK.

Can't you feel the devil waves?? The guy laughing himself sick is Phillip, Jae Ha's best friend.

Phillip is a deep, complex character who adds lots of plot.

Phillip is also completely shameless. Like, his interest in Eun Young is a flashing neon sign on iceskates, and she's totally oblivious. He actually does the yawn-stretch to get his arm around her. When she teaches him the Korean phrase for "I love you" (at his request) he gazes intently in her eyes and says, "Saranghae." And she's like, "OH! GOOD TRANSLATION!"

Even Jae Ha can't escape him! Feel the hetero, bro!

Of course, their rivalry for Eun Young pits them like this...

Tortured piano of sweaty angst and fingerporn!!! Oh yes.

Despite Jae Ha's icy exterior he's actually a giant woobie dork underneath, and watching him try to deny his feelings is like watching a puppy trying really hard not to be cute. It just can't happen.

LOOK AT THEM. It's all shifting and significant eye contact and he keeps looking at her lips and guuuuuuuh.

He gives her a piggyback ride and insults her weight! She questions his manners and rants about him to all her friends! Their first kiss is after she slaps him. Bwahahaha.

The OTP summed up by a ten year old:

"Is it like, you want to bother her every time you see her?"
"Well, yeah."
"Are you stupid? It's love."

But they still have to deal with Phillip, the ladies' man...

And who is that dark shadow oozing around the corner?

SHE DOES NOT SLEEP. SHE WAITS.

Then they start remembering the past...

This is easily the most gorgeous drama I've ever seen -- so gorgeous I can't even cap most of it. It's impossible to catch all the shifting, shimmery colors and the way the light plays off their faces and how the camera follows them through windows and reflections and flowers and sunshine. Look at the way everything is bathed in color:

And light:

And pretty pretty scenery:

Oh yeah, and there's some of this, too:

You're welcome.
