Derpderp. Computer is doing A Weird Thing, so we'll see how this goes.

Saw The Last Airbender yesterday, and holy crap. I mean, I knew it was gonna be bad, but bits of it were just... painful. The racefail was especially prominent if you've seen the cartoon- Zuko and Aang weren't too bad, but Sokka and Katara were the only white people in their entire village, and I didn't even realize who Zhao was supposed to be until halfway through the movie.

Then the bending... the special effects weren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be, they're just slow. It'd be more effective for all the fighters to rely on hand-to-hand, because their bending abilities take too long.

Furthermore, on the subject of bending, it reminded me of a Final Fantasy summons. In the show, when someone bends, the element follows their motions in an intuitive way. In the movie, however, someone will execute a series of martial-arts moves, and then bending happens. The movement of earth or fire or whatever appears completely independent of whatever the benders are doing, just that they have to reach a certain level of badass for it to work. Also, they recycle the same moves for different effects. You could assume they thought most of us wouldn't notice, but Katara specifically corrects Aang's posture in one form, which they are later seen using in some sort of training montage (in which that form doesn't seem to actually do anything?), and even later when Aang is busy using his super Avatar powers to save the world.

And Iroh should not be that skinny. Or have dreadlocks. The Fire Nation's topknots are conspicuously absent. Probably so that nobody would have to suffer the humiliation of wearing the Royal Hairpin.
