There are a lot of different ways to watch a show. There are a lot of different ways to like a character or ship a pairing. There are lots of ways that I don't personally get, or which I just wouldn't enjoy. And it's easy to be dismissive of the ways that don't ping for you, and I've certainly been guilty of that at times. Mea culpa ( Read more... )

Heh. I often think we're at opposite ends of the Spuffy spectrum. Cause I unabashedly love what we got in canon (with a couple well-discussed exceptions). And sometimes, I feel like I'm betraying the Spuffy ship by not hating the badness that was S6 or being disappointed by S7 or whatnot. Which is oddly contrasted with the other times I feel like a delusional, brain-dead fangirl shipper for fervently believing in a post-series Spuffy.

Oh, fandom.

I have a feeling that the people newer to fandom are more apt to embrace what we got in canon as they likely didn't have the time for speculative "what ifs" and subsequent disappointments while watching the show. So, yeah, fandom changes.

However, everybody's Spuffy looks a little different. I think it's pointless to try to regulate who gets to be a Spuffy fan and who doesn't. If you love Spuffy, you're a Spuffy fan. Whether your version of Spuffy is fluffy love and puppies or brutal and sadistic or not-quite-canon or completely canon or whatever. That's part of the beauty of the ship is that is can be taken so many different ways depending on what you're looking at.

I know you fell in love with S5 Spuffy which looks very different from S6 Spuffy which looks very different from S7 Spuffy. But just because you prefer to focus your attentions on S5 and the possibilities inherent in it doesn't mean you're not a Spuffy shipper. Geez. I hate the AR with the passion of a thousand howling tomcats, but nobody's gonna kick me out of the Spuffy club for that.

I think I had a point in here somewhere, but I lost it roundabout the second paragraph or so. tl;dr: All flavors of Spuffy are yummy.

A fair number of the parts I love like burning are in seasons six and seven, actually - they're just mixed in with the parts which I praise with faint damns. *g*
