COOL IS THE RULE,BUT SOMETIMES BAD IS BAD!

School has been incredibly stressful this quarter. The projects have been very time consuming and beyond most of my artistic range, mostly because they deal with animation, a subject I ain't particularly good at and one that requires unlimited patience, which also isn't a strongpoint of mine. The one class that I actually excel at is the one that I haven't been able to spend the most time with, and well, it's frustrating. So there hasn't been much room for any other art projects.
Three more weeks of this grueling stuff, then I'll be off til the summer. Not that that means I'll be doing nothing. We'll be moving in May to Orange County, where I will transfer to the school out there and hopefully finish, tho that also has been an issue. The program I'm in requires that I master one of the two requirements-animation or 3D Modeling, which neither has been a successful venture for me. I'm an illustrator at heart and, tho I like to dabble in both animation and modeling, both are computer heavy fields. I could draw, paint or sculpt all day and love it, but I get bored very quickly with anything that requires a computer. This is the conundrum I face. This is the thing that's gonna kill me in trying to make a living doing what I love.
I'm sure every artist goes through this point where they feel they have nothing new to offer or they feel obsolete.
If you are an artist, or  a creative, I ask you, how do you overcome the demon monkeys that rest firmly on your backs?
I'm not one to give up,though. I soldier on. fighting doubts and obstacles, and ever seeking out a place for my work. I'm looking forward to the move. With the many comic conventions and stuff going on in the area, I plan to hit them and get my artwork out there. A change of scenery will also be welcome. It will be nice to actually be able to sit outside and draw without the oppressive heat of the Las Vegas summer. Everyone tells me that the area will be much better for me. I hope they're right. I've visited California, but never lived there, so I'm not sure what to expect.
Before I leave I'll post a reflective babble about my time in Las Vegas, but fer now, let's get to what little new artwork I have to share with ya-

For those who know me personally, you know I've had a long time project where I've taken the people in my life and sooperheroized them. The adventures and mis-adventures of my life has been chronicled in a series of faux comic book covers under the moniker The Fantasians. This group drawing is a classic line-up of that group from the mid 80's. I was feeling a bit nostalgic after watching an old videotape I tossed into my dusty ol' rickitty vcr. It was chock full of MTV videos of Huey Lewis,NIGHT FLIGHT clips,Late Night David Letterman sketches and long forgotten gems. You know, that tape that you've never tossed out because it was the first one you ever recorded off of the tv out of amazement that you could do such a thing? When cable tv was adventurous and independent and wacky? Well, anyway,I decided to doodle out that classic line-up of people in my life of that mystical time, and how they would appear now, with my updated art style and a tweek to their look as well. This means nothing to those not involved, but I hope it brings a smile to those it does. Eventually I plan to clean it up, color it and make it a fine tribute to this cast o' misfits. On a side note-the last time this group of people were in the same room was in Sept., 2001, a week before the terrorist attacks on our nation. Yep.

This here is a Valentine's Day gift I did for the wifey. She's a big Teen Titans fan and so here I managed to hold back my usual macabre sense of pencil strokes and go cartoony for her. I really like the look on The Kid Flash's face. Cracks me up!
Speakin' of the wifey, you can check out her comic book musings  in the "Comics About Girls" segmant on the most awesome podcast on the planet-"Movies About Girls", which can be found here-http://www.moviesaboutgirls.com/

This last one I have no idea where it came from other than I was sitting on the couch with some color pencils and just let it out without any intentions or restrictions. I guess it would be some kinda alien chick thingy.

Ok, well, I gotta get back to work. Much homework is needed to be finished up for me to somehow pass this quarter. Any and all kinds of encouragement are needed, and I ain't too proud to beg for it. Any little bit will go a long way!
Course I can see it now, some potential employer has managed to trace the digital footprints of The Ragzter to this post and reads it and comes to some conclusion that I'm all wishy washy and unhireable. Well, other than the fact that I'm not sure if "unhireable" is an actual word, rest assured that doing artwork is a very personal thing for me, but I'm also willing to sell my soul to do it. The computer isn't my enemy, just a tool that i shall find a way to master.
Cuz I really don't wanna work retail EVER AGAIN!
