Y HALO THAR ELJAY. 8D;; Long time no see!

Watched the premier (here in Sweden) of Star Trek♥XI last friday.

Anyone else here (Trekker? First time ST-fan?) feel like discussing it/ranting about it? Any thoughts, positive, negative, bland, anything... I welcome everything since my feelings are quite mixed as well.

Overall, I adored it. It made me cry and it made me laugh and it made me want a sequel. ;3

Congratulations, from what I've heard there is already a sequel in the making :D

I adored it overall as well~~! I really think it was a very dignified and reinventing interpretation of TOS & handled the characters in a way I approve of. I laughed and cried as well... though some things made me do a double take..

So here are somea couple of points that surpised me. Sorry if I'm too in dept D: ;;

1. ROFL @ random guy Olsen. I knew from the second he jumped out of the aircraft that he was destined to only be a red shirt. I was both amused, but my more anal side was slightly disappointed since I really don't like the idea of such characters even having a place in Starfleet (there's supposed to be smart & proper guys dammit!)

2. Spock & Uhura. Sure I saw some hints to it in TOS, but seriously didn't think they'd go so far in the movie. It felt a bit rushed, to me, although I sort of just accepted it (Spock was quite torn up after all......and for good reason!!!!) and at first I laughed and though it simply was a nod-of-the-head to the ( ... )

Just gonna branch off your 2-cents and possibly conjure up some of my own in the process --

I actually went to the bathroom [I tried so hard not to!!! and made my dash as quickly as possible!] during the part where said Olsen came into the picture. I left to go right when Pike had rounded up the troops -- and then came back in when they were about to jump outta the shuttle. I heard my friends loling about him wearing the red suit and how he was gonna die though! I dun really have much to say about him being a whatever character [since I wasn't aware that he was?] though someone did have to kick the bucket to intensify the situation, I'd say?

Though not knowing if there was any TOS claimed relations between Spock and Uhura... I did find it rather WTF??? during their first moment with one another. Frankly, that made me shifty towards Uhura with the unsettling description of slut... and that didn't sit well with me. I was like "wait... he was your teacher... and now you're macking on him? D: Whaaaat???" And then I had a lol moment ( ... )

Regarding Olsen: He was a minor character with little or no value, and in the spirit of Trek (especially TOS) his life had to be sacrificed to create the proper atmosphere (e.i. Redshirt), sure :P But I was mostly peeved, not at the way he dies, but how he goes about it. He just annoyed me. But that's not really important, since he isn't! :D

Spock / Uhura: There wasn't really much of any relationship in TOS. Of course Kirk went around "charming" and being charmed by alien ladies a lot... but he always falls back on his T'hy'la (Vulcan for friend/brother/lover ;D), Spock. ♥
Spock & Uhura had some scenes that could be interpreted as, very vaguely, "something".. but I think it's stretching it far to compare it with the movie, cause they took it to a new lever completely. And I definite, definitely, defined, divinity, defiant, definitive, define, finite, defiantly, definer, deficit, defines agree that their first moment was quite surprising! And I totally agree with you about rushing it, but we'll just have to accept it as NewTrek ( ... )

Olsen: LoL, yah... he did come off as somewhat of a dumbnut. Watching it for like the 3rd...4th... time, I really get to pick up on more things throughout the movie that I didn't notice the first time. And Olsen's lack-there-of has become definitely more apparent to me. Why would you want to cut your chances of landing to mere inches?? Bragging rights?? Most illogical. [:P]

Spock/Uruha: I'm about halfway through the first TOS series and I've come across those snippets in episodes that you linked me too, and even then, I didn't think much of any potential Spock/Uhura. And it's slowly starting to bug me in relation to the movie... XD; There's definitely hardcore!Kirk/Spock though 8) With some McCoy for flavoring, lol. I nearly died of awesomeness when I saw this. I was so thinking what Kirk was thinking... before he thought it. And then I smirked so slyishly when he did XD In any case, like you said, gotta accept the Spock/Uruha as NewTrek... ;X No use getting our shorts all up in a bundle when we could be enjoying the continuation of ( ... )

Kirk/Spock: You should def. know that I'm right there with you on wanting more of this, haha. I think there shall def. be more in the next movie. I think they did a good job of building their relationship. Leonard Nimoy rocked my socks with his reprisal. I'm sure it through Kirk into a whirlpool with having to deal with uptight!Spock and then getting a taste of compassionate!Spock. I looooooved the whole scene where prime!Spock was informing Kirk that he can't tell young!Spock about him and Kirk is all flipping out cuz he doesn't know what to do, lol. And yah, I agree, haha, the farewell scene was amusing too -- "it'd be selfish to tell myself to live long and prosper, so instead, peace out homie ( ... )

And if I can be truly honest for a smidget, I'm feeling conflicted about the excitement that this ST movie has erupted. Well, for ME, it's awesome. Because it reminds me why I love ST so much. Gets me all nostalgic because it has been a franchise that I've been a fanatic for quite some time.... but like, I remember back in the day when being a trekkie was considered way too geeky, uncool and you'll-never-get-laid. But with this ST movie having a more military, edgy and adventurous standpoint, it's more appealing and less geeky, IMO. So therefore, it blurs the boundary between sci-fi nerd and your average joe. Now I'm not saying "omg my fandom is getting popular, oh hell no!" But I do feel with this movie, its become a trendsetter. Maybe it's just the initial hype... and I dun wanna be a hypocrite about it since the tables could very well be turned on me in regards to LOTR and Harry Potter. In any case, the boom is awesome for the franchise! -- though I guess, as a long-time fan, it almost feels ridiculous to me to see everyone and ( ... )
